PETERSEN MEDIA- Returning to action at the Valvoline Raceway in Sydney, AU over the weekend, Ian Madsen had a flat tire derail him during the rain delayed Boxing Day event, before he finished third on Monday night (in AU).

“We were pretty fast both Sunday and Monday night, but we had a left rear go down on us Sunday,” Madsen said. “We timed in well again on Monday and were able to put a complete night together and finish in the third spot.”

Timing the Nehring Construction/Logan Contractors Supply/Kline Electric No. 18 machine in 2nd quick in his qualifying group on both nights, Madsen would finish in the fifth spot, and transfer into the feature event and the pole shootout for the Sunday night program.

Winning two matchups in the shootout, Madsen would grid the field from the second row for the ensuing 35-lap feature event. Getting off to a great start, Madsen was strong on the immaculately prepared Sydney Speedway just one day after a strong amount of rain.

Running in the third spot as the race drew to a close, Madsen would feel his left rear tire start to go down, and would soon pull his machine into the pit area with just six laps to go with a flat tire that ended his night.

Monday night, Madsen was able to again get through his heat race with a very strong second place run and he would again find himself in the schedules pole shuffle. Officials would later scratch the shuffle due to time constraints, and Madsen would again line up in the second row for the feature event.

Showing the same speed as he did the night before, Madsen would battle with the likes of Kasey Kahne and Brad Sweet as they ran well inside the Top-Five. Running comfortably in the third spot, Madsen would pressure Kahne for the second position in the waning laps, but would wind up finishing in the third spot.

“It is great to get a good finish after a couple of tough nights of racing,” Madsen said. “Everyone has worked so hard to get us here, and now that we have a podium under our belts hopefully we can keep climbing the ladder.”
