PETERSEN MEDIA- Getting a final weekend of racing in before this week’s Lucas Oil Grand Annual Sprint Car Classic, Ian Madsen and his KCP Racing team picked up a pair of Top-10’s at the Valvoline Raceway during the prestigious Scott Darley Challenge.

“We had a nice weekend, and picked up a couple of strong finishes but we certainly would have liked to have been up front fighting for the win on each night,” Ian Madsen said. “We continue to have pretty good speed, and this week we will really work at getting a complete night put together and see what we can do at the ‘Classic’.”

Timing the Nehring Construction/Logan Contractors Supply Inc./Team Kline Electric No. 18 machine in fourth fastest in his qualifying group, Madsen would pick up a heat race win and earn a spot in the pole shuffle.

Going into the shuffle as the 10 seed, Madsen would win his first matchup and look to be on his way to winning his second match up before a power steering pump failure forced him to bring his machine to a stop, and putting him in the fifth row for the A.

From his ninth starting spot, Madsen would find himself in a torrid battle with Robbie Farr and Brooke Tatnell as they battled inside the Top-10. Getting into the seventh spot, the trio continued to exchange slide-jobs until the checkered flag flew on the opening night feature event with Madsen in the seventh spot.

Returning to the Valvoline Raceway on Saturday night for the final night of the Darley Challenge, Madsen would time the Watson’s Express Transport/Greenland Homes of Iowa/Royal Flooring entry in fourth fastest in his group for the second consecutive night, before he again picked up the heat race win.

Finishing 10th in the pole shuffle, Madsen would end up lining up in the ninth spot for the 40-lap feature event after older brother, Kerry, elected to take the Challenge on this night.

When the eventual non-stop race went green, Madsen would engage in battle with James Thompson, and again Brooke Tatnell as they jockeyed for position around the racy Valvoline Raceway.

Able to maintain track position inside the Top-10, the St. Marys, NSW native would close his weekend out with an eighth place finish.

“We did everything we needed to do both nights to get in the show with a decent starting position, but we could not get going forward like we had hoped,” Madsen added. “It was a great field of cars without question, but we still would have liked to have got going forward a little bit more. I have to thank this team for all of their continued hard work, and all of the people who continue to allow us to have fun and compete. It is a big week of racing in Australia and we hope to take some nice hardware back to the States with us.”

Ian and his KCP Racing team would like to thank Nehring Construction, Logan Contractors Supply Inc., Team Kline Electric, Greenland Homes of Iowa, Royal Flooring, Aspen Aire Inc. Heating and Cooling, Bobcat, The Stone Shop, Gator Excavating, TammyHeckart.com, Van Gorp Construction, Caliber Iowa, Quality Traffic Control, Flatrate, Inc.,  Speck USA, Kustom Concrete Pumping, Lucas Oil, Revolution Race Gear, Monarchs Restaurant and Lounge, and Climate Master- Geothermal Heating and Cooling,  for their support this season.
