PETERSEN MEDIA- Getting sent to the tail on Friday night at the Santa Maria Speedway, Jace Vander Weerd would rebound on Saturday night at the Perris Auto Speedway as he snagged an 11th place finish during the Firecracker 40 event with the USAC/CRA Series.

“Santa Maria was a little bizarre on Friday night, and on Saturday night we were able to come back with an 11th place finish,” Jace Vander Weerd said.

Timing in 11th fastest on Friday night with the USAC/CRA Series at the Santa Maria Speedway, Vander Weerd would pick up a second place finish during heat race action aboard his Vander Weerd Construction/Stonegate Development/Battery Worx backed No. 88 machine.

Lining up 11th in the feature event, passing was at a premium on this night, but the Visalia, CA driver was able to move up inside the Top-10 as he ran in the ninth spot. At the halfway point the caution flag flew, and without hearing anything on his radio, Vander Weerd would pull to a stop by an official citing a safety issue with his radio.

With the official ruling it was not a safely issue, Vander Weerd would be sent to the back of the pack. Again, with passing at a premium on this night, Vander Weerd would opt to call it an early night and get ready for Perris Auto Speedway on Saturday.

“It was frustrating to have get penalized for that, especially once I realized that the USAC radio wasn’t working during the feature event,” Vander Weerd said. “With the way the track was, I figured it was best not to tear something up trying to gain a spot or two.”

The Fourth of July brought the Firecracker 40 event at the Perris Auto Speedway again with the USAC/CRA Series. Timing the Mid-Valley Pipe/Basic Industries/SWE backed No. 88 machine in 14th fastest, Vander Weerd would record a fifth place finish in his heat, and have to make a stop in the B Main where he finished in the third spot.

Lining up in the seventh row for the 40-lap feature event, the racing action on this night was second to none, as Vander Weerd battled in a pack much of the night as drivers jockeyed for position lap-after-lap. In some hair-raising action, Vander Weerd would take the checkered flag in the 11th spot when the dust settled on a thrilling race.

“I was happy with how we ran at Perris,” Vander Weerd added. “It was a really eventful feature event, and I had some fun mixing it up.”

Jace and his Vander Weerd Racing team would like to thank Vander Weerd Construction, Stonegate Development, Battery Worx, Mid-Valley Pipe, Basic Industries, Steve Watt Enterprises, FK Rod Ends, PXP Raceway and K&N for their support in 2015.

2015 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-23, Wins-0, Top 5’s-2, Top 10’s-15.

ON TAP: Jace will take a couple weeks off before returning to the Keller Auto Speedway on July 24th, and the Thunderbowl Raceway on July 25th.
