PETERSEN MEDIA- With a deal coming together last minute, Jonathan Allard was able to compete in the 2017 Gold Cup Race of Champions as he took controls of the Roth Motorsports No. 83JR for the weekend and picked up a sixth place finish on Friday night.

“I can’t thank Dennis and Teresa Roth enough for this opportunity to compete for them during Gold Cup,” Jonathan Allard said. “Their car is iconic in this sport, and to be able to drive for them at my home track’s biggest event was very special to me.”

Friday night, Allard made his return to Silver Dollar Speedway, as he timed the Roth Enterprises/HR Livestock Transportation machine in sixth quickest in his qualifying flight.

Starting and finishing third in his heat race, the Chico, CA native was locked into the feature event where he would take the green flag from the 11th starting position. When the race came to life, Allard quickly advanced into the 10th spot where he ran for the first half of the race.

Taking advantage of a mid-race restart, the former Gold Cup champion made a big move as he surged into the seventh position. His stay in seventh would be short-lived as two laps later he was able to put a move on Shane Golobic to take over the sixth position.

Chasing after Justin Sanders in traffic, Allard couldn’t quite get to his fellow Californian competitor as he closed the night would with a sixth place finish.

Returning to action on Saturday night to close out the Gold Cup, Allard would be hampered by an early pill draw as he timed in 12th quickest in his qualifying flight on this night.

Advancing from sixth to fourth in his heat race, Allard would move into the 40-lap feature event where he would grid the field from the 15th starting position. On a surface that continued to hold moisture and create a wicked fast surface, Allard would work his way into the 14th spot when the race came to life, but would fall back to 16th on the third lap.

Getting out of the groove on the 12th lap, JA would fall back to 19th as he looked for any kind of opening to get going forward. With passing tough on the fast track, Allard would find himself in trouble on lap 27 as he would get sucked into the front stretch wall and get the Roth Motorsports machine upside down.

“I hate it for this team to end our night like we did,” Allard added. “Again, really appreciative of the opportunity to work with everyone, and hope to get another shot with them. I wish them the best moving forward as they are battling for a KWS championship.”

Allard would like to thank Walker Performance Filtration, ButlerBuilt, King Racing Products, BR Motorsports, Red Line Oil, KSE Racing Products, NGK Spark Plugs, FK Rod Ends, Hunt Magnetos, Longacre Products, RCM Design, Ti64, A.R.T. Speed Equipment, AL Driveline, and Hoosier Tire for their support.

2017 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-5, Wins-1, Top 5’s-1, Top 10’s-4.

ON TAP: Allard is unsure when his next race will be for sure at this time as he continues to try and put something together for the final months of the season.
