PETERSEN MEDIA- Taking a couple weeks off after a tough California Sprint Week, Jace Vander Weerd and company were back in action at the Perris Auto Speedway on Saturday night where Jace would finish in the 13th spot.

“The track was a little more hooked up than I thought it would be, and it was really tough to pass,” Jace Vander Weerd said. “I was able to get a couple spots on the start of the race, and then trying to go outside late to pass a slower car I lost some track position and ended up 13th.”

With 29 cars checked into the Perris Auto Speedway Saturday night, Jace Vander Weerd timed his Mid Valley Pipe/Basic Industries/FK Shocks No. 88 machine in 12th fastest.

Finishing fourth in his heat race, Vander Weerd would line the Vander Weerd Construction/Stonegate Development/Battery Worx backed machine up in the sixth row of the feature event.

The bottom groove was really good on this night, and with most of the field jockeying for position down low on the start, Vander Weerd was forced to try to make some moves on the outside lane as he worked his way down to the bottom of the speedway, but it would result in him losing some spot.

Once settled in, Vander Weerd would hit his marks on the low side of the speedway as he tried to shove his nose under a few of his competitors in an attempt to work his way forward.

A late restart would see Vander Weerd pick up a few spots as he got into the Top-10, but getting stuck behind a slower car, Vander Weerd would try to go around the car and it would result in him losing a few spots, and falling back to finish in the 13th spot.

“It was just a tough track to get moving forward on,” he added. “I tried something late and it didn’t work out for us.”

Jace and his Vander Weerd Racing team would like to thank Vander Weerd Construction, Stonegate Development, Battery Worx, Mid-Valley Pipe, Basic Industries, Factory Kahne Shocks, Steve Watt Enterprises, FK Rod Ends, PXP Racewear and K&N for their support in 2016.

2016 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-30, Wins-2, Top 5’s-9, Top 10’s-17.

ON TAP: Jace will be at the Canyon Speedway Park in AZ this weekend as he takes part in the Hall of Fame Classic.
