Jace Vander Weerd 4th at Ventura Raceway

PETERSEN MEDIA- Traveling to the coast with the USAC West Coast 360 Series, Jace Vander Weerd would have a great night that saw him pocket a fourth place finish at Ventura Raceway.
“It was a great night, and I was happy with our team’s performance,” Jace Vander Weerd said. “We got off to a good start in the feature, and that was key to a good finish.”
Timing the Vander Weerd Construction/Stonegate Development/Mid-Valley Pipe backed No. 88 machine in fifth fastest in qualifying time trials, the Visalia, CA driver would pick up a heat race win from his second row starting position.
Continuing to watch the track as races went on through the night, Vander Weerd would line his machine up in the third row for the 30-lap feature event.
When the field was shown the green flag, Vander Weerd got a really strong start as he put his machine in the third spot and chased after the lead duo. Keeping pace with first and second on the tricky Ventura Raceway surface, Vander Weerd would hit his marks as he looked for an opening to go after the top spot.
As the laps clicked off, Vander Weerd’s machine would start to loosen up and he would have to change his line a little as he searched for grip. Falling back to the sixth spot at one point, Vander Weerd would continue to fight as he was in striking distance to get back into the Top-Five.
With a couple of cars tangling in front of him late, Vander Weerd would avoid the mess and get back to the fourth spot. Able to stick inside the top-five during the race’s closing laps, Vander Weerd would come away with a fourth place finish aboard his Basic Industries/Factory Kahne Shocks/SWE sprinter.
“We fell off the pace a little at the end, but we were able to take advantage of an incident at the end,” Vander Weerd added. “If we weren’t so good at the start of the race we wouldn’t have been in that position. Overall I was happy, and looking forward to winged and non-winged racing this weekend.”
Jace and his Vander Weerd Racing team would like to thank Vander Weerd Construction, Stonegate Development, Mid-Valley Pipe, Basic Industries, Factory Kahne Shocks, Steve Watt Enterprises, FK Rod Ends, PXP Racewear and K&N for their support in 2017.
