PETERSEN MEDIA- Returning to action at the Keller Auto Speedway on Saturday night for a USAC West Coast 360 event, Jace Vander Weerd battled with a flat left rear tire for a portion of the race on Saturday night, and was still able to record an eighth place finish.

“It was a non-stop event and I think we had a bleeder fail at some point during the race as we had a left rear go down and really make the car a handful at times,” Jace Vander Weerd explained.

A very well prepared Keller Auto Speedway was presented to the competitors on Saturday night, and Vander Weerd kicked his night off by timing the Mid-Valley Pipe/Basic Industries/SWE backed No. 88 machine in ninth fastest.

Slipping back to a fifth place finish in heat race action, Vander Weerd would line up in the fourth row for the 30-lap feature event, a race that would eventually go non-stop.

With the track staying smooth and wide all night long, Vander Weerd searched both the high and low lines as the action came to life as he looked to work his way forward. Feeling his racecar start to get loose on the slick surface as the race forged on, Vander Weerd would have to manhandle his machine to keep in under him.

Able to run inside the Top-10, Vander Weerd was able to finish the race in the eighth spot, as he then discovered he had a flat left rear tire upon returning to the pit area at the conclusion of the race.

“The racetrack was awesome all night long, and it was kind of a bummer we had some issues,” Vander Weerd said. “We had a really good car early, but all of the sudden it got really loose, and that must have been when a bleeder failed. I really have to thank everyone on this team for continuing to give myself and Richard great racecars, and hopefully we can get up front and battle for a win soon.”

Jace and his Vander Weerd Racing team would like to thank Vander Weerd Construction, Stonegate Development, Battery Worx, Mid-Valley Pipe, Basic Industries, Steve Watt Enterprises, FK Rod Ends, PXP Raceway and K&N for their support in 2015.

2015 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-21, Wins-0, Top 5’s-2, Top 10’s-15.

ON TAP: Jace will be back in on Friday night at the Santa Maria Speedway on Saturday night at the Perris Auto Speedway for the annual Firecracker 40 event.
