PETERSEN MEDIA- Jace Vander Weerd and his Vander Weerd Racing team opened their 2016 season up over the weekend, as they competed with the USAC West Coast 360’s on Friday night in Las Vegas, NV one night before battling the USAC/CRA Series at the Perris Auto Speedway.

“It was an okay weekend for us, but I am really looking forward to getting back to Tulare this weekend,” Vander Weerd said. “We ended the season with a win there last year, so hopefully we can do it again.”

With pill draw lining up heat races on Friday night, Vander Weerd would line up in the fifth row of his heat race and wind up racing his way up to finish in the seventh spot.

Forced into one of the twin B Main events, Vander Weerd would advance from his second row starting spot to pick up the win in the semi and safely advance into the night’s feature event.

Lining up in the 17th starting position for the feature event, Vander Weerd would lose a couple of spots before he got settled into the race. On the slick and racy Las Vegas Dirt Track, the Visalia, CA driver would get into a groove and get moving in the right direction.

With only one caution bunching the field up on this night, Vander Weerd would flirt with a Top-10 but would come up just short as he finished in the 11th spot.

“I thought we had a good car on Friday night, but I needed more than one yellow to get into the Top-10,” Vander Weerd added.

Saturday night saw the team make the trip to the Perris Auto Speedway to take on the USAC/CRA 410ci Sprint Cars.

Timing in 19th quickest during time trials, Vander Weerd would again go through the B Main, but as he did on Friday night he again transferred into the feature event.

Lining up 19th on an extremely fast Perris Auto Speedway surface, Vander Weerd was patient aboard his No. 88 machine. With passing tough, he was able to work his way forward and pick up a few positions as he closed his first weekend of the season out with a 13th place finish.

“Saturday night the track was fast and narrow, and made it tough coming from the back,” Vander Weerd noted. “We are really hoping the weather cooperates this weekend so we can get another weekend of racing in.”

Jace and his Vander Weerd Racing team would like to thank Vander Weerd Construction, Stonegate Development, Battery Worx, Mid-Valley Pipe, Basic Industries, Factory Kahne Shocks, Steve Watt Enterprises, FK Rod Ends, PXP Racewear and K&N for their support in 2016.

2016 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-2, Wins-0, Top 5’s-0, Top 10’s-0.

ON TAP: Jace is scheduled to be at the Thunderbowl Raceway this Friday and Saturday night with the USAC West Coast 360’s.
