PETERSEN MEDIA- Taking part in last week’s Cotton Classic with the King of the West Series, Jace Vander Weerd is looking forward to more winged racing this week as he is set to take part in the 24th Annual Trophy Cup that invades Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, CA this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night.

“It was good to get back in the winged car last weekend with Trophy Cup coming up,” Jace Vander Weerd said. “The track was really tricky though, and I couldn’t make much grip or speed, so hopefully we can have a much better showing this week.”

Timing the Vander Weerd Construction/Stonegate Development/Mid-Valley Pipe backed No. 88v in 13th quickest of the 30 cars entered into the Cotton Classic, Vander Weerd would put his machine on the front row of his heat race.

Going low on the first lap, Vander Weerd would loose a couple of positions as he slipped back to fourth. Making an adjustment, he would move up the track and hang on to the fourth and final transfer position into the 30-lap Cotton Classic feature event.

Lining up 16th in the feature event, the track would prove to be even more tricky as ruts and holes were at both ends of the speedway. Settling into the 15th position as the race came to life, Vander Weerd would struggle to find grip and fought a light front end.

With things continuing to difficult on the Visalia, CA driver, he would opt to call it a night on the 10th lap and set his sights on Trophy Cup.

“It was frustrating in the feature event, but I thought better of trying to force the issue,” Vander Weerd said. “Trophy Cup is a cool event, and hopefully we can run well this week.”

Jace and his Vander Weerd Racing team would like to thank Vander Weerd Construction, Stonegate Development, Mid-Valley Pipe, Basic Industries, Factory Kahne Shocks, Steve Watt Enterprises, FK Rod Ends, PXP Racewear and K&N for their support in 2017.

2017 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-22, Wins-0, Top 5’s-8, Top 10’s-12.
