Jace Vander Weerd Makes King of the West Series Debut

PETERSEN MEDIA- With countless non-wing 410 laps to his credit over the course of his career, Jace Vander Weerd made his winged 410 debut on Saturday night as he took on the King of the West Series at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, CA.
“The track got pretty racy in the feature event, and after having to go to the back I was able to do some battling and get back up to 11th,” Vander Weerd said. “I had a lot of fun and am looking forward to this weekend.”
Making his first laps with the wing adorned to his 410ci entry, Vander Weerd would time the Vander Weerd Construction/Stonegate Development/Battery Worx No. 88 machine in 11th fastest.
From the front row of his heat race, Vander Weerd would spin his tires when the field was shown the green flag and it would result in him finishing in the third spot, though it would still lock him into the fifth row of the 30-lap feature event.
Taking the green flag in the 10th spot, the Visalia, CA driver was able to work his way forward as he would soon run in seventh. An early caution flag would see the car in front of him come to a dramatic stop, and with nowhere to go, Vander Weerd would take an evasive maneuver and end up spinning his machine to a stop.
Restarting from the tail end of the field, Vander Weerd was able to race his way by some seasoned winged 410ci drivers as he worked around Thunderbowl Raceway to finish in the 11th spot.
“I made a mistake in the start of the heat, but the car felt good, and we moved forward in the feature,” Vander Weerd said. “I am looking forward to this weekend in Hanford, CA and Trophy Cup the following weekend.”
Jace and his Vander Weerd Racing team would like to thank Vander Weerd Construction, Stonegate Development, Battery Worx, Mid-Valley Pipe, Basic Industries, Factory Kahne Shocks, Steve Watt Enterprises, FK Rod Ends, PXP Racewear and K&N for their support in 2016.
