Jace Vander Weerd, Monty Ferriera, and Cory Elliot Score Wins at Keller Auto Speedway on Saturday Ni

(Hanford, CA)- An all open wheel program on Saturday night at the Keller Auto Speedway saw Jace Vander Weerd lead all 30-laps with the USAC West Coast 360 Series to claim the Jim Evett Memorial, while Cory Elliot dominated the USAC Western States Midget event, and Monty Ferriera was victorious with the RaceSaver 305’s.
Vander Weerd and Troy Rutherford would lead the USAC West Coast 360’s to green, with Vander Weerd getting the early jump as Mike Spencer and Danny Faria took over the second and third positions before a the red flag flew on lap three.
When the action finally resumed after a pile up on the lap-three restart, Vander Weerd would continue to lead the way, though he would feel heavy pressure from second running Spencer.
Continuing to lead over Spencer, Faria, and Jake Swanson, Vander Weerd was extremely smooth on the bottom of the speedway. With the caution again waiving with just two laps remaining, Vander Weerd would nail the final restart, as he went on to pick up the win over Spencer, Faria and Jake Swanson.
By leading all 30-laps, Vander Weerd would take home an extra $3000 that was put up by the Evett family, as Vander Weerd now joins his brother, Richard as a winner of the Jim Evett Memorial.
In the USAC Western States Midget event, it was all about Cory Elliot. From the front row, Elliott simply took off and hid from the field on this night. Despite a pair of early cautions, Elliot was able to open up a sizeable lead as he picked up the win by six seconds.
The midget race did offer a bit of drama on Saturday night though as series point leader, Ronnie Gardner, was collected in a lap three wreck. Able to make repairs, Gardner would put on an equally impressive showing as he charged from the tail end of the field to finish in the third spot.
Sean Dodenhoff would finish in the second spot, Gardner third, and Michael Faccinto would finish in the fourth spot.
After finishing in the second position during the Western States RaceSaver 305’s last visit to the Keller Auto Speeedway, Monty Ferriera would not be denied on this night.
Lining up on the front row of the feature event alongside Jared Faria, Ferriera would show patience in the opening stages of the race, as he would make his move on the fourth lap.
With Ferriera out in front, Chris Ennis would work his way into the second spot on the eighth lap with Faria holding down the third spot.
As the race came to a close, Ferriera extended his lead, but the battle for third picked up between Jesse Mack and Vaughn Schott. Exchanging the spot three times over the final two laps, Schott would grab the spot at line.
Ferriera would take the win handedly over Ennis, Schott and Mack.
