PETERSEN MEDIA- Continuing to hone his skills aboard a winged 360ci sprint car, Jace Vander Weerd picked up an eighth place finish on Friday night at the Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, CA.
“We had a pretty good car and got close to the Top-Five at times during the race, but we got a little too free at the end of the race and a couple of restarts saw us slip back to finish in the eighth spot,” Vander Weerd said.
Taking part in the series’ second race of the season, Vander Weerd kicked the night off by timing the Vander Weerd Construction/Stonegate Development /Battery Worx No. 88 in ninth fastest.
Finishing sixth in his heat race, the Visalia, CA driver would line up in the fifth row of the 30-lap feature event on what was a very slick and racy Keller Auto Speedway surface. As the race came to life, Vander Weerd would move forward as he battled with the likes of Steven Kent, and Scott Parker.
Working his way up to the sixth spot during the race, Vander Weerd’s car would start to become a little bit of a handful as the race came to a close. A late restart would see Vander Weerd fall back to the ninth spot, but he would get by Dalton Hill in the closing laps to finish eighth.
“The track was pretty slick and we just weren’t tight enough at the end and we lost some track position,” he added. “Thanks to everyone who continues to help me every week, I am looking forward to Ventura this weekend.”
