PETERSEN MEDIA- Turning in an impressive performance on Friday night in Hanford, CA, Jace Vander Weerd with go toe-to-toe with some of the regions top winged sprint car drivers as he recorded a second place finish in Hanford, CA.

“Friday night we were good every time we hit the track,” Vander Weerd said. “We timed in well, and raced well and ended up with a good finish.”

Timing the Vander Weerd Construction/Stonegate Development/Mid-Valley Pipe machine in second fastest in qualifying time trials, Vander Weerd would fourth in his heat race.

Moving into the six-lap Dash, Vander Weerd would line up in the second row and jump into the third spot, as the field shuffled through turns one and two. Finishing third, Vander Weerd would line up there for the 30-lap feature event.

With the first 11-laps being slowed by a trio of cautions, Vander Weerd would hold down the second position as he chased after DJ Netto and Mitchell Faccinto early in the race.

Falling back to fourth as he battled with Gio Scelzi, Vander Weerd would sneak his way back up into third as the race got into an extended green-flag run. The race’s final caution of the night would come on the 28th lap and it would be for second running Scelzi, and it would put Vander Weerd on the leader’s bumper for one final restart.

Unable to make a bid for the win, Vander Weerd would close his night out with a second place finish.

Saturday night, Vander Weerd and company would shed the wings and travel to Santa Maria, CA with the USAC West Coast 360’s.

Timing in 10th fastest in time trials, the Visalia, CA driver would line up on the front row of his heat race. Finishing in the second position, Vander Weerd would line up in the second row for the feature event hoping to land on the podium both nights in the same weekend.

Settling into the fourth spot as the race came to life, Vander Weerd would run in the lead pack, as traffic would become an issue.

Carefully navigating through traffic, things would quickly come to an end for Vander Weerd as a spinning car would collect him and abruptly end his night halfway into the feature event.

“I think it was going to be another good night for us on Saturday, but sometimes it is hard to avoid a spinning car,” Vander Weerd noted.
