PETERSEN MEDIA- Improving on his fourth place finish at the Peter Murphy Classic just one week ago, Jace Vander Weerd and the Vander Weerd Racing team were one spot better on Saturday night in Hanford, CA as they picked up a third place finish.

“The track was pretty slick but had some rough spots and it made things a little tricky in the main,” Vander Weerd said. “I had some issues, but was able to rebound and finish third.”

Kicking the night off in qualifying time trials, Vander Weerd timed his Vander Weerd Construction/Stonegate Development/Mid-Valley Pipe No. 88 machine in second fastest.

Moving into heat races, Vander Weerd would grid the field from the second row. Showing good speed on the big, slick speedway, the Visalia, CA wheel man would work into the third position which would place him in the fourth row for the 30-lap  feature event.

With the track building a thick cushion around the speedway as the night moved along, it would prove tricky for many, as it had also developed some rough patches in other areas.

Getting off to a quick start, Vander Weerd would soon find himself in the fifth spot. Running inside the top-five, Vander Weerd would hit a couple of rough spots wrong and it would result in him getting over the edge of the speedway and losing a few positions.

Getting settled back in, Vander Weerd would work his way back to fifth where he would battle with brother, Richard. Able to get by his sibling, as he too would have issues with a rut, Vander Weerd would take over the fourth spot and get into third in the closing laps.

When the checkered flag flew, Vander Weerd would successfully take the final spot on the podium.

“It was a great night for us,” Vander Weerd said. “We moved forward and were pretty good on a tough track. We just needed to start a little further forward, but we will take it and move on to our first winged race of the year on Friday.”

Jace and his Vander Weerd Racing team would like to thank Vander Weerd Construction, Stonegate Development, Mid-Valley Pipe, Basic Industries, Factory Kahne Shocks, Steve Watt Enterprises, FK Rod Ends, PXP Racewear and K&N for their support in 2017.

2017 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-9, Wins-0, Top 5’s-3, Top 10’s-5.

ON TAP: Jace Vander Weerd will be back in action Friday night in Hanford, CA when he makes his first winged 360 start of the season.
