PETERSEN MEDIA- After a busy stretch of racing, Ian Madsen and his KCP Racing team had a light weekend that saw Madsen finish eighth during the final event of the season at the Knoxville Raceway.
“We were actually pretty good Saturday night, but late in the race I got into the wall and we bent a wheel, so that slowed us down a bit,” Ian Madsen said.
Checking into the famed Knoxville Raceway for the final time in 2016, Madsen timed his Logan Contractors Supply, Inc./Aspen Aire/Kline Electric No. 18 machine in eight fastest in time trials, before racing his way to a fourth place finish during his heat race.
Gridding the field from the fourth row for the final 25-lap feature event of the season at the Knoxville Raceway, Madsen would show he had a very fast racecar, as he would take part in an epic battle inside the Top-Five.
With cars exchanging positions lap after lap, Madsen would run in the fifth spot when a caution flew on the 15th lap. When the action got back underway, Madsen would hook up in an intense battle with Davey Heskin as they battled for the fourth spot.
On an extremely racy Knoxville Raceway surface, Madsen would drift high looking to use his momentum to get into the fourth spot, but the St. Marys, NSW driver would drift a little too high and would come into contact with the wall.
Though losing some positions, and damaging a wheel, Madsen would do what he could to hang on to his Top-10 status, as he would finish in the eighth spot.
“It was a tough result for our team, but it was an extremely fun race,” Madsen said. “We have three big nights ahead this weekend in Jackson, MN, and I would love to get this KCP Racing team into victory lane.”
