PETERSEN MEDIA- Jarrett Soares got right back to work with the King of the West Series on Saturday night one week after earning Hard Charger Honors during the Bradway Memorial. Taking to a very slick Placerville Speedway, Soares would do some good things during the feature event until a late race bobble would relegate him to a 16th place finish.
“Our night got started off okay in time trials, and then I got taken to school a little during our heat race,” Jarrett Soares said. “I am working on running the really slick surfaces, and have to thank Brian Sperry and my dad for being patient with me.”
23 King of the West 410 sprint cars checked into Placerville Speedway on Saturday night for the fourth event of the 2017 season. Timing in 11th fastest in time trials, Soares would find himself on the front row of his heat race.
Leading the opening lap, Soares would then see Andy Forsberg and Sean Becker get by, as he did what he could to chase them down and see how they got around the slick ¼ mile bullring.
Sliding back to finish in the fifth spot, the Discovery Bay, CA driver the lined the American Toll & Mfg./C&H Veteran Enterprises/Performance Powder Coating No. 12 machine up in the 12th starting spot for the 30-lap feature event.
With the track continuing to go away, Soares would hold is own in the first portion of the race as he battled amidst the star studded field that was assembled on Saturday night.
As the race went on the track continued to slick off and Soares would slowly begin to fade as the tried to make grip on the ¼ mile. A bobble late in the race would see him get out of shape enough to lose several spots and he finished 16th.
“The car felt really good on the slick, and I felt pretty comfortable in the feature,” Soares added. “We held our own in first half of the race, but a couple mistakes dropped us back to 16th.”
Jarrett and his Soares Motorsports team would like to thank American Tool & Mfg., C&H Veteran Enterprises, Performance Powder Coating, Addicted Industries Clothing, A.R.T., Bailey Brothers Racing Engines, Dickens Cider, and Walker Performance Filtration for their support.
ON TAP: Soares returns to action on Saturday night as he will follow the series to Tulare, CA.
