PETERSEN MEDIA- Competing with both the Civil War Series presented by Flowmaster as well as the King of the West Fujitsu Racing Series over the weekend in Watsonville, CA, Jarrett Soares was happy with how both nights of racing went.
“Friday night was really good for us because we got our 360ci engine running right again, and on Saturday night we ran well, and I really got comfortable maneuvering around a slick track in our heat, but we just missed the dash by one spot and started deep.”
Battling with the Civil War Series Friday night to open the 7th Annual Howard Kaeding Classic, Soares would time his American Tool & Mfg/C&H Veteran Enterprises/Performance Powder Coating machine in 13th fastest in time trials.
Falling back to third in his heat race, Soares would move into the 30-lap feature event where he lined up in the 10th starting position. Working around the Ocean Speedway, Soares would turn in some nice laps but would lose a few positions over the course of the race as he finished 16th.
Back in action on Saturday night with the King of the West Series, Soares timed in 23rd quickest and found himself in the third row of his heat race. Going to work on the bottom on a very slick surface, Soares would hook up in a very entertaining battle with Brent Kaeding for the final spot in the dash. Jockeying for the spot, Soares would end up finishing fourth and lining up in the 17th starting position.
With work on the track before the feature bring the speedway back to life, the initial part of the race would see passing at a premium. Unable to really make much ground up in the 30-lap affair, Soares would finish 17th.
“It was good to get locked into both A’s right out of our heat race and not worry about the B’s,” Soares added. “Both nights I really had a good car, but I just wasn’t aggressive enough.”
Jarrett and his Soares Motorsports team would like to thank American Tool & Mfg., C&H Veteran Enterprises, Performance Powder Coating, Addicted Industries Clothing, A.R.T., Bailey Brothers Racing Engines, Dickens Cider, and Walker Performance Filtration for their support.
ON TAP: With some flexibility in schedules for the next couple of weeks, Soares is unsure of when and where is next race will be yet.
