PETERSEN MEDIA: Climbing aboard the Van Dyke Motorsports machine for the Fall Brawl at the I-80 Speedway on Saturday night, Jason Martin would put on a show during the finale as he charged from 15th to finis in the sixth spot.
“We started out a little slow speed wise, but I was very pleased with Harley’s enthusiasm to get me comfortable in the car,” Jason Martin said.
Slipping back to finish in the fifth spot during heat race action, Martin would line the Lucas Oil /K&N/JRI Shocks No. 5h machine up in the third row of the B Main, with the top-six finishers moving into the first feature event.
Continuing to work with the crew to get the car to his liking, Martin would finish in the fifth spot, and successfully put the Van Dyke Motorsports machine in the feature.
Lining up in the 20th position, Martin would get off to a nice start as he carved his way forward. Battling to stay on the lead lap, and put himself in good position for the second feature, Martin would go a lap down just before an untimely caution flag flew.
“We were going good in the first A, but going a lap down right before the caution hurt us,” Martin said. “It hurt at the time, but I think having to go threw the B again helped us.”
Finishing 17th in the first A, Martin would line up fifth in the B Main as he looked to race his way into the feature event for the second feature on this night, as double features were in place following Friday’s rain out.
Finishing third in the second B Main, Martin would line up in eighth row of the second 30-lap A Main of the night.
This race would see Martin come to life, as he worked his way forward at will. Racing against the best the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour has to offer, Martin was able to fight his way forward and finish in the sixth spot, earning hard charger honors for his efforts.
“Running that second B Main gave us more opportunity to get some things worked out, and it allowed us to charge from the back like we did,” he added. “I was truly pleased with our performance, and with it essentially being the first night we have ever really met each other we got along just fine.”
The Van Dyke Motorsports team would like to thank Lucas Oil, K&N Products, JRI Shocks, NAAKE Suspension, FSR Radiators, for their support during the year.
