PETERSEN MEDIA- Jason Statler and his DF Rios Motorsports team headed to the Antioch Speedway to take on the World of Outlaws on Sunday night. Heavy track conditions made for little passing, but the Grass Valley, CA driver was able to do a little moving as he earned KSE Hard Charger honors.
“The surface was not very fun to race on, but the guys worked hard and continued to get the car better each time we hit the track,” Statler said.
With 35 cars checked into the pit area, Statler timed his DF Rios Motorsports/Riley Collins Auto Body/Amerikote backed No. 00 machine in 18th fastest, just narrowly missing out on the heat race inversion.
Lining up In the fifth spot in his heat race, “The Big Guy” would be on the inside of the speedway and stuck on the greasy part of the track, making it difficult to get moving, as he slipped back to sixth on the start. Once things were underway, the extremely fast track made for hammer down heat races, and Statler’s sixth place finish would put him in the night’s Last Chance Showdown.
Again starting in the inside row, Statler would fall back on the start, but it would only be one position, as he settled into the fourth spot, as he chased after Ian Madsen. Battling for some breathing room, Statler would come up just short of the third spot, but would finish fourth and successfully move into the 30-lap feature event.
Rolling off in the 18th starting spot, Statler would get a nice jump as he got by Colby Copeland, and Justyn Cox as he made some of the few passes of the race. On a very narrow track surface, Statler would also get by Donny Schatz, as he moved into the 14th spot.
With the race’s lone caution flying on the 11th lap, Statler continued to keep Schatz at bay on the restart, as he duo battled in the middle of the pack for the duration of the show.
When the checkered flag flew on the fast paced event, Statler had earned Hard Charger Honors with his 14th place finish.
“We have been struggling with our cars the first few races of the season, but it felt a lot better on Sunday night,” he added. “I really want to thank my guys for continuing to work hard for me.”
Jason Statler would like to thank DF Rios Motorsports, Amerikote, Riley Collins Auto Body, SCI, Kaeding Performance, Yak Graphics, Factory Kahne Shocks, Ultra Shield, Rod End Supply, Santomauro, Stephanie’s Custom Interior, and Nevada City Auto Service for their continued support.
ON TAP: Statler will return to action on Saturday night as he heads to the Placerville Speedway to battle with the King of the West Series.
