PETERSEN MEDIA- Getting the 2022 season underway over the last week in Tulsa, OK, 14-year-old JJ Loss would impress at the Tulsa Shootout as one of his highlights included being one of just 18 participants to lock into four qualifier events.

Competing in four divisions at the Shootout, Loss would take part in Outlaw Winged and Non-Winged action, as well as A Class Winged and Non-Winged action.

Heat races would go well for the California driver as he kicked his Shootout off in style by earning a win in his Outlaw Class Non-Winged heat race after lining up on the pole.

Loss would continue to flex his muscle in the Expo Center as he would win his A Class Non-Winged Heat as well also from the pole before tallying a pair of fifth place finishes in both Winged heat races, each coming from fifth row starting positions.

Moving into all four qualifiers, Loss would continue to make noise and pass a ton of cars in front of on lookers. Lining up 10th in his Outlaw Non-Winged Qualifier, the youngster would make some swift moves as he worked his way forward to tally a fourth-place finish.

Lining up 11th in his Non-Winged ‘A’ Class Qualifier, conditions would be a little tricky to pass on, though he would pick up a couple of positions as he came away with a ninth-place finish.

Winged action saw Loss charge from seventh to finish fourth in the Outlaw class before a huge run in his ‘A’ Class event saw him advance from 13th to finish seventh.

Following qualifier action, Loss would move into ‘B’ Main action in all four divisions. Lining up sixth in his Outlaw Winged ‘B’, Loss would work his way up to a fifth-place finish and bring his week to an end in that division.

With three more chances to race into LCQ’s still to come, Loss would come up just short in ‘A’ Class Winged action as he went from fourth to third, before charging from seventh to fourth in ‘A’ Class Non-Winged action.

Lining up on the pole of his Outlaw Non-Winged ‘B’, Loss would lose his only position of the week as he finished second, however the finish was enough to keep his Shootout alive as he transferred to the LCQ.

Needing to finish in the Top-Eight of the LCQ to make the Outlaw Non-Winged ‘A’, Loss would have his elbows up as he took the green flag from the 10th starting position.

Going toe-to-toe with some of the country’s top drivers, Loss would fight hard for the eighth and final transfer spot into the feature event. Coming up just short, Loss would end his Shootout with a ninth-place finish in the LCQ.

Though coming up short on making a Saturday night feature event, Loss’ performance didn’t go unnoticed by many notables tuned into the race.

When asked about an unfamiliar young driver that impressed at the Shootout, Car Owner Tim Clauson was quick to name JJ Loss. “There have been quite a few (To impress), but a couple that have stood out by name would be JJ Loss, and Austin Torgerson,” Clauson said via Twitter.

With the Shootout officially over, Loss and his family are busy putting together a Micro schedule for the 2022 season that will see them compete in CA as well as in the Midwest. Loss is also hoping to partner with a Midget team in 2022 with hopes of running a few races as schedules allow.

JJ Loss would like to thank The California Graphics Company, Journey Transport, White Pine Paving, Ryan Wilson, CSI, Keizer Performance Wheels, Radical Race Gear, CR Graphics, and Seros Racing, Inc. for their continued support.
