PETERSEN MEDIA- Saturday night at the Petaluma Speedway, Joe Stornetta looked to be well on his way to his third win of the season. Unfortunately, Stornetta would fall victim to a broken steering bolt, and his night would come to a close seven laps shy of the checkered flag.
“Even though we broke a bolt, I thought we still had a pretty good night,” Joe Stornetta said. “We were really fast and I think we would have been pretty tough to beat at the end of the race.”
With 25 cars checking into the Petaluma Speedway for a Wingless Series presented by Joe Hunt Magnetos event, Stornetta would time the Geide Family/OK Tire Store/IWear Motorsports No. 6 machine in sixth fastest during group qualifying.
Working on getting his machine better, Stornetta and company would make some adjustment prior to the heat race as the Napa, CA wheelman picked up a third place finish and earned a berth into the night’s Dash.
Running second in the six-lap Dash, Stornetta would line up on the front row of the 25-lap feature event, and when the race got underway he simply took off and hid from the field.
Though a few early caution flags would slow his pace, Stornetta would continue to run away from the field restart, after restart. A restart on the 16th lap saw Stornetta bobble as he fell to the second spot on the exit of turn two. Down the back straight-away it was apparent Stornetta had issues and as he was unable to steer his machine, he got out of the gas and kept his machine off the wall and brought it safely to a stop. His night would be over.
“We were awesome in the feature event,” Stornetta said. “With the way we have been running, it was nice to be that fast, but it was also disappointing to come of short and have a DNF.”
Joe Stornetta would like to thank JPS Trucking, The Geide Family, OK Tire Store, iWear Motorsports, Parmeter General Engineering Service, X Winery, Bergin Glass, LJ’s Speed & Machine Shop, Rick Lawley Trucking, Black Hawk Body Shop, and The Holman Family for their support.
ON TAP: Stornetta will be back in action on Saturday night in Petaluma, CA.
