PETERSEN MEDIA- Hoping to better his second place finish at the Calistoga Speedway during the April race, Joe Stornetta returned to the famous half-mile on Saturday night and came up short of his goal as he finished in the sixth spot.

“We seemed to lack speed early in the night, and as the night progressed and the track continued to slick off, the car was great, but the driver made too many mistakes,” Joe Stornetta said.

During group qualifying on Saturday night, Stornetta timed the JPS Trucking/Geide Family/OK Tire Store No. 6 machine in fifth fastest, before picking up a win in the night’s heat race.

Earning a berth in the Dash, Stornetta would line up in the third row of the six lap shootout, and move up to the fourth spot. While running in fourth and looking to be locked into the second row of the feature event, Stornetta would have a front hub fail on his machine, and he would be credited with an eighth place finish and line up in the fourth row of the 20-lap feature event.

Making some big moves in turn three in the opening laps, the Santa Rosa, CA wheelman would find himself in the fourth spot as he chased after Klint Simpson, and Gary Nelson, Jr who raced in front of him.

While running in the fourth spot as the laps clicked away, Stornetta would get too high on a pair of occasions exiting turn four and nearly come into contact with the retaining wall. Able to keep his machine on the racing surface, Stornetta would see his top-five finish vanish, as he took the Ed Entz checkered flag in the sixth spot.

“We had a strong Top-Five car, and I made some mistakes trying to push the limits in the closing laps,” Stornetta said. “I have to apologize to my team for making the mistakes I did, but also need to thank them for their hard work and giving me a good racecar.”

Joe Stornetta would like to thank JPS Trucking, The Geide Family, OK Tire Store, iWear Motorsports, Parmeter General Engineering Service, X Winery, Bergin Glass, LJ’s Speed & Machine Shop, Rick Lawley Trucking, Black Hawk Body Shop, and The Holman Family for their support.

ON TAP: Stornetta will return to action on Friday night aboard the Lathrop No. 9n machine at the Petaluma Speedway. .
