Joel Myers Jr 10th to Open Season in United States

PETERSEN MEDIA: Kicking his 2024 season off at home after a strong run in New Zealand to open the calendar year, Joel Myers Jr overcame a little early adversity to record a 10th place finish at Placerville Speedway.

“Its been a whirlwind few months, but it was finally great to get our season going in California,” Joel Myer Jr said. “We fought some engine gremlins in time trials, but still made the inversion which did make for a bit of a smoother night.”

With 36 cars on hand for the track’s first Sprint Car race of the year, Myers Jr timed the Hi-Plains Building Division/DirtDudes Excavating/Carbon Safety Solutions backed No. 46JR in eight fastest in his qualifying flight.

Lining up in the second row of his heat race, Myers Jr needed to finish inside the Top-4 to earn a berth directly into the 30-lap feature. As the race came to life, Myers Jr settled into fourth, but he soon felt pressure from a hungry Justin Sanders.

Able to fend off Sanders, Myers Jr took advantage of the second place cars having issues as he took over third and gave himself a bit of a buffer. Finishing third, Myers Jr safely locked into the feature where he found himself taking the green flag from the 12th starting position.

Running in 13th in the opening laps as the race struggled into get into an early rhythm, a lap seven restart saw an accident break out in front of him. Getting a piece of the mess, Myers Jr quickly headed to the work area where his team could overlook his car and make what repairs they were able to in the allotted time.

Making the call when the track was set to return to green flag action, Myers was back in 19th when the action resumed.

Working way back into 14th, Myers was back to 13th on the 17th lap as he worked around the high banked Placerville Speedway. Working into 12th on the 18th lap, Myers Jr was able to pick off positions in the closing laps which culminated in him getting into 10th when the checkered flag was displayed to the field.

“Some opening night issues that we had to work through, but overall I was happy with how our car felt, and the changes we made through the night,” Myers Jr said. “A big thank you to everyone who helped get our cars ready for the season, and to all the companies that support us.”
