Joel Myers Jr 11th with King of the West Series in Hanford, CA

PETERSEN MEDIA: Though no stranger to the Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, CA, Saturday night would mark Joel Myers Jr’s first ever laps at the speedway with a 410ci power plant under his hood. Though the end result was not what the team had hoped for, Myers Jr was pleased with how things went as the team will get back down to the track a couple more times over the course of the next month.

“Our night started out pretty well,” Joel Myers Jr said. “We timed in well, we ran a strong heat, and I got off to a good start in the feature.”

In what was his first ever King of the West start at the Central California facility, Myers Jr kicked his night off by timing the All About Fire Protection/Dirt Dudes/Amerikote backed No. 46jr machine in eighth fastest in qualifying time trials.

Finding himself on the front row of his heat race, the Sebastopol, CA driver would beat JJ Ringo in a drag race into turn one to grab the lead and never look back. Leading all eight laps, ‘Jr’ would pick up the win and earn enough points to solidify himself a spot in the Sunnyvalley Bacon Dash.

Lining up on the front row of the Dash alongside Tim Kaeding, the youngster would hang right with the veteran ace as the duo broke away from the pack. Unable to get by TK, Myers Jr would settle for second and put his mount on the front row of the 30-lap Jim Turner Memorial feature event.

With Kaeding getting the initial jump, Myers would settle into second as he worked the high side of the 3/8-mile Keller Auto Speedway. Feeling pressure from Justin Sanders, Myers would keep him at bay until a caution flag halted the race’s progress.

Falling back to third as Sanders was able to beat the 15-year-old into turn one, Myers would not back down as he quickly made his way back into second as he resumed his pursuit of Kaeding until another stoppage slowed the action.

The ensuing restart would see Myers lose several positions as he would fall all the way back to the seventh position. At the race’s halfway point, Myers Jr would misjudge his entrance into turn three and it would result in him getting over the edge of the track and spinning to a stop.

Going to the tail end of the field, ‘Jr’ would work his way back forward and narrowly miss out on finishing in the Top-10 as he took the checkered flag with an 11th place finish.

“I think we learned some things that will help us when we come back on October 8th and 9th,” Myers said. “It was only our third night with this engine, and we still have a little tweaking to do, but all in all it was a solid night for us in the scheme of things.”

Joel Myers Jr Racing would like to thank All About Fire Protection, Dirt Dudes, Amerikote, PitStopUSA, Y2K Gaming, Shark Racing Engines, Lucas Oil, Vaider, L Delo Designs, Factory Kahne Shocks, Walker Performance Filtration, ShopRico.Com, Tiner Hirst Enterprise, Kaeding Performance, and Triple X Race Co. for their continued support.
