Joel Myers Jr Back on Placerville Speedway Podium

PETERSEN MEDIA: Making another appearance at Placerville Speedway over the weekend in the family-owned Joel Myers Racing No.46JR, Joel Myers Jr had an impressive run that saw the 16-year-old pick up a second-place finish on Saturday night.

“We have been working on our car the last few weeks, and I was really happy with the end result on Saturday night,” Joel Myers Jr said. “The track had some character which through us a little curve ball, but we were able to continue to tweak and make positive changes.”

Going out dead last in qualifying time trials, Myers Jr qualified inside the heat race inversion as he timed the All About Fire Protection/DirtDudes Excavating/High-Plains Building Division backed entry in 14th fastest in qualifying time trials.

Putting himself on the front row of his heat race, Myers Jr took full advantage of the prime starting position as he powered out to the early lead and never looked back. Picking up the heat race win convincingly, ‘Jr’, solidified a spot in the feature event and was also eligible for the Top-8 redraw.

Pulling the six, the Sebastopol, CA pilot took the green flag for the 25-lap finale on the outside of the third row. Getting a good start to the feature event, Myers Jr quickly worked into the Top-Five as he had an exciting tussle with Andy Forsberg as the duo jockeyed for position and both worked their way forward.

Getting into third, Myers Jr then turned his attention to second running Shane Hopkins who was cutting into the Kalib Henry’s lead as they got into traffic. Getting into second, Myers would keep pace with the race leader however a couple of untimely cautions late in the race negated his progress and took the leaders out of traffic.

Though he had a couple of restarts to try and make work of Henry, Myers Jr just couldn’t get to him in the closing laps and capped his night off with a second-place finish.

“I really didn’t need a couple of those late yellows, but those are things you can’t control,” Joel Myers Jr said. “I want to thank my family, my partners, and Cody for their support and hard work. Looking forward to getting back to Placerville on Saturday night and trying to finish one spot better.”
