Joel Myers Jr Caps Midwest Swing With Podium Run at Plymouth Dirt Track

PETERSEN MEDIA: Spending the last month in the Midwest for a late summer swing, Joel Myers Jr’s trip came to an end on Saturday night at Plymouth Dirt Track as he picked up a third place finish with the Interstate Racing Association (IRA), as he now heads back to California for the final two months of the 2023 season.
“It was a great trip, and I was happy to see a lot of new tracks, run well, and meet a lot of great people along the way,” Joel Myers Jr said. “I had a ton of fun, and I am very thankful for everyone who made this trip possible.”
Myers Jr opened his weekend up on Friday night as he checked into Dodge County Raceway. Timing the All About Fire Protection/High-Plains Building Division/DirtDudes Excavating backed No. 46JR in 12th fastest in time trials, the Sebastopol, CA native raced his way to a win his heat race.
Qualifying for the Dash, Myers Jr raced to a fourth place finish which lined him up in the inside of the fourth row for the impending feature event.
Racing on the biggest track he has competed on to date in his young career, Myers Jr was able to gain a couple of spots over the course of the race. Using a late restart to his advantage, Myers Jr was able to crack the top-five in the closing laps as he capped the night off with a fifth-place finish.
Saturday night scene shifted to the Plymouth Dirt Track, a track that Myers Jr had been on already during his trip.
A solid start to the night saw the youngster time in eighth fastest in qualifying time trials before racing his way to a second place finish in his heat race.
Qualifying for Dash Two, Myers Jr pocketed a second place finish and put him fourth on the starting grid. On a very slick racing surface that built up a huge cushion, Myers Jr had his elbows up and was in the hunt all race long.
Racing with the likes of Scott Thiel during the course of the feature event, Myers Jr was able to power his way into a podium position as he capped his trip off with a third place finish.
“It was great to end the trip with a pair of good runs,” Myers Jr said. “Racing with a different group of people on some different surfaces and layouts was challenging, yet fun at the same time. I think it benefitted me as a driver and our program overall, and I’m excited to see what we can do back at home.”
