Joel Myers Jr Charges to 8th After Last Minute Decision to Head to Skagit Speedway

PETERSEN MEDIA: With a Saturday storm in Northern California raining the region out, Joel Myers Jr waited until a Friday evening decision was made from Skagit Speedway on the fate of their season opener. With the track giving the green light, Myers Jr and company hopped in their rig, and made the overnight tow north and ended up finishing eighth in the feature event.

“The weather in California has been wild, and we really wanted to get our 410ci season going,” Joel Myers Jr said. “Skagit Speedway had some rain in the forecast but once they made the decision Friday night that the race was on, we hopped in and headed up.”

Kicking his US season off one week ago in 360ci competition, Saturday night marked Myers Jr’s first 410ci start of the season, and they were greeted with some issues in hot laps.

With throttle issues plaguing them, the team went to work to make repairs and just narrowly made the call for time trials.

Dealing with a faulty bleeder during his qualifying attempt, the air pressure woes did plague the Sebastopol, CA driver as he ended up 14th quickest.

Moving into heat race action, Myers Jr lined the All About Fire Protection/Hi-Plains Building Division/DirtDudes Excavating backed mount up in the third row.

Finally having his issues behind him, Myers Jr worked into fourth, where he finished, and put himself in the 14th starting position in the feature event.

When the green flag was displayed to the field, Myers Jr quickly went to work as he used a couple of big moves to race into 9th, before moving into seventh on the second lap.

An early restart saw the freshly minted 18-year-old NZ Champ race into sixth where he ran for a majority of the race.

A lap 25 restart was unkind to the youngster as he gave up a couple of positions as he slipped back to eighth in the race’s waning laps. Unable to get going back forward, Myers Jr capped his night off with an eighth-place finish.

“Big thanks to my dad and Dylan for all of the hard work and help,” Joel Myers Jr said. “Super thankful we were able to make the trip up, and excited to get back up to Skagit this weekend and give it another go.”
