PETERSEN MEDIA: Saturday night the King of the West Series makes a visit to Petaluma Speedway, and for Joel Myers Jr he hopes some home cooking will help him build some momentum with a busy stretch of the schedule on the horizon.
“We have taken some lumps and had some growing pains early in the season, but looking back at last week, I felt really good on Saturday night before we had a part failure and I am hoping we can match that this weekend in Petaluma, CA,” Myers Jr said.
Born and raised in nearby Seabastopol, CA, Petaluma Speedway is a special place for the 16-year-old driver as he grew up going to the speedway cheering on his hero’s and cut his teeth in a winged car at the bay area speed plant the last few years.
Running a pair of 410ci events at the Speedway in 2021, Myers Jr had very good results. While running with Phulps Motorsports, the then 15-year-old was large and in charge out front and looked poised to pick up his first career win only to endure an issue in lapped traffic that knocked him out of competition.
Later in the season, Myers Jr was aboard his family-owned car when he earn Fast Time honors before landing on the podium with a third place finish.
“Heading back to Petaluma Speedway this weekend knowing that I ran well in two different cars last year really does give me confidence as we head there with the Vertullo Motorsports team,” Joel Myers Jr said. “We have a lot of races upcoming, and if we can pick up a good finish this weekend, I think it will go a long way for us.”
