Joel Myers Jr Earns Trio of IRA Hard Charger Awards Will Return to Midwest Next Weekend

PETERSEN MEDIA: Making his debut at I-94 Speedway and River Cities Speedway with the Interstate Racing Association over the weekend, Joel Myers Jr impressed as he picked up finishes of fourth, eighth, and ninth, and was the Hard Charger in each feature event.

“I was really happy with our weekend, and I was pleased with what we were able to do on two new tracks to us against a bunch of new competitors,” Joel Myers Jr said. “I struggled to give us good starting spots in each feature either due to our qualifying or heat race, but we were good in all three feature events and passed some cars.”

Myers opened his trip up a I -94 Speedway in Minnesota on Thursday night as he timed in 16th fastest in his qualifying flight which put him in the fourth row of his heat race.

Going from seventh to sixth in his heat, Myers Jr missed the transfer into the feature and made his way into the night’s ‘B’. Lining up in the second row of the semi, the Sebastopol, CA driver made a couple of nice moves to jump into the lead aboard the All About Fire Protection/Hi-Plains Building Division/Dirt Dudes Excavating backed No. 46JR.

Grabbing the win, Myers Jr moved into the feature event and took the green flag from the 21st starting position. From the back of the field, the 16-year-old continued to show that seem speed he showed in the semi as he worked his way forward.

Able to work his way into the Top-10 on the 26th lap, Myers Jr moved into eighth on the 28th circuit where he capped off his hard charger efforts.

Heading to Fargo, ND on Friday night, Myers Jr got his first look at one of the most storied bullrings in the country, River Cities Speedway.

Timing in 10th fastest in his time trial group, Myers Jr picked up a fourth-place finish in his heat race and was securely in the feature event as he rolled off the starting grid from the 13th starting spot.

On a track that clicks off lap in a hurry, Myers Jr moved into eighth in the first 10-laps of the feature and moved into 6th at th halfway point of the 30-lapper.

Continuing to work through the dense traffic that makes the track so unique, Myers Jr moved into fifth with nine to go, and made a final lap pass to secure a fourth-place finish and earn his second consecutive hard charger award.

Saturday night saw Myers Jr have his best qualifying effort of the weekend as he timed in third fastest in his group, but an incident in his heat race caused him to not finish and put him in the ‘B’.

Picking up his second ‘B’ win of the weekend, Myers Jr was safely in the feature event however he found himself again in the 21st starting position.

Just as he did at I-94 Speedway, Myers Jr wowed the crowd as he worked his way through the field. Working the high banked bullring like a seasoned vet, Myers Jr again charged his way into the Top-10 as he capped the weekend off with a ninth place finish.

With the trip originally scheduled just to be a weekend getaway, Myers Jr and company parked their rig in Indiana, and will return next weekend for more IRA action with races after that in the Midwest TBD.

“I am thankful for the opportunity I had to get out here, and I am excited that we left our equipment out there to go back out next week,” Myers Jr said. “It is great to try some new places, and I’m thankful we had some good runs. Thanks to my Dad, Tanner, and Carson for all of their help.”
