Joel Myers Jr Nets 13th Place Finish in Chico, CA

PETERSEN MEDIA: Turning his attention to 360ci action over the weekend in Chico, CA, Joel Myers Jr would rebound from a tough showing on Friday night with a 13th place finish during Saturday night’s Silver Cup finale.

“Friday night got off to a tough start with our pill draw and draft position, but then we had some more issues that ultimately ended our night early,” Joel Myers Jr said. “Saturday night went much better for our team, and it was something we all needed after a couple of tough nights to start the season.”

Following an hour-long rainstorm that passed through the area just prior to the driver’s meeting on Friday night, 45 cars would check into open Silver Dollar Speedway’s 2022 season.

Drawing a late pill, Myers Jr would not have many options left for the Qualifying/Heat Race group draft and would end up picking a spot in group five.

Timing the All About Fire Protection/Starr Property Management/Morrison Concrete backed No. 83v machine in fifth fastest in his group, the Sebastopol, CA driver would line up fifth in his heat race.

On an extremely fast surface from the earlier weather, Myers Jr would look to maintain the fifth position to transfer into the feature event, but on the second lap mechanical issues would force him back to the trailer.

Diagnosing the issue to the throttle linkage, ‘Jr’ would make the call for the ‘B’ where he took the green flag from the 17thstarting position. Still having issues caused from the linkage trouble, Myers Jr would pull off the racing surface early and his night would come to an early end.

Making repairs through the day on Saturday, Myers Jr and team would get off to a nice start on Saturday night with 49 cars checked in for the finale.

Timing in fourth fastest in group four time trials, Myers Jr would line up fourth in his heat race. Able to get into third when the race came to life, Jr would maintain the position for the duration of the race and successfully transfer into the 35-lap feature event.

Taking the green flag from the 11th starting position, Myers Jr would fall back early on the tricky track conditions.

Having numerous double file restarts throughout the night, some would go his way, and some would result in him losing track position. When the race was under green, the 15-year-old was able to make up ground as he fought his way back to a 13th place finish at the stripe.

“I am glad we had a pretty smooth Saturday night, and I hope the bad luck is behind us,” Myers Jr said. “Thanks to the Vertullo Motorsports team for all of their help, and thanks to SLC and Silver Dollar Speedway for doing everything in their power to get both nights of racing in.”

Joel Myers Jr Racing would like to thank All About Fire Protection, Starr Property Management, Morrison Concrete, Hi-Plains Building Division, G&N Construction, System 1 Ignition, Dirt Dudes, PitStopUSA, Y2K Gaming, Shark Racing Engines, Lucas Oil, Vaider, L Delo Designs, Walker Performance Filtration, ShopRico.Com, Tiner Hirst Enterprise, Kaeding Performance, and Triple X Race Co. for their continued support.
