Joel Myers Jr Picks Up a Pair of IRA Podiums

PETERSEN MEDIA: Returning to the Midwest over the weekend, Joel Myers Jr had a very good weekend with the IRA in Wisconsin as he picked up a third-place finish on Friday night at Plymouth Dirt Track, and backed it up with another third place effort on Saturday night at Wilmot Raceway.

“I’m really happy to run well at two places I have never seen before,” Joel Myers Jr said. “It was a fun weekend with my team, and I’m looking forward to getting back to those places.”

Friday night Myers Jr kicked the weekend off at Plymouth Dirt Track by timing the All About Fire Protection/Hi-Plains Building Division/Dirt Dudes Excavating backed No. 46JR in ninth fastest in his qualifying session.

Lining up on the front row of his heat race, the Sebastopol, CA runner tucked into second when the heat went green and held on to the spot during the eight-lap race. By way of his finish, Myers Jr was locked into Dash No. 2 and found himself on the front row.

Picking up the win in the Dash, Myers Jr was on the front row of the 30-lapper as he continued to chase after his first IRA feature event win.

Getting the jump when the field was turned loose, Myers Jr lost the spot on lap nine before slipping back to third on the 11th lap.

The slick surface saw Myers Jr continue to hold the third spot until Greg Wilson passed him on the 29th lap to drop him back to fourth. Not giving up, Myers Jr was able to get back on the podium as he snuck by Bill Balog on the last lap to secure a third-place finish.

Despite weather looming in the area on Saturday night, the event at Wilmot Raceway went off with no interruption as Myers Jr adapted to the track quickly as he timed in second fastest in qualifications.

Finishing fourth in his heat race, Myers Jr again found himself in one of the twin Dashes, as his fourth place finish in Dash 1 put him in the seventh starting position for the 25-lap ‘A’ Main.

From the fourth row, Myers Jr got off to a great start as he rocketed into the Top-Five and quickly found himself in fourth on the opening lap. Moving into third on the second lap, Myers Jr continued to run well as he battled between third and fourth much of the race.

Lap 17 saw the youngster give himself some separation in third as he held the position for the final eight laps and capped the weekend off with his second IRA podium.

“Big thanks to my guys for their hard work, as well as to my Dad for his support and help,” Myers Jr said. “I also want to thank the Crouch Motorsports team for allowing us to work out of their shop while we are back in the Midwest.”

BY THE NUMBERS: Starts- 33, Wins-7, Top-5’s- 14, Top-10’s-22

ON TAP: Myers Jr will take a couple weeks off as he now will go to work with Crouch Motorsports during Southern Iowa Speedweek, and hopes to return to action with the IRA August 19th at Wilmot Raceway and on the 20th at Angell Park Speedway.
