PETERSEN MEDIA: Putting a tough start to his 2023 season at home behind him, Joel Myers Jr had a strong showing at Petaluma Speedway on Saturday night as he picked up a sixth place finish with the NARC/KWS series.
“Our first couple of weekends out have been rough, and we spent last week making a lot of changes,” Joel Myers Jr said. “The track was really hooked up and fast and I felt pretty good, but we have really been struggling on the slick so hopefully this week we can get a get test to see if we are heading in the right direction.”
Making his first appearance at Petaluma Speedway since winning last Fall’s Adobe Cup, Joel Myers Jr opened the night up by timing the All About Fire Protection/Hi-Plains Building Division/Dirt Dudes Excavating backed No. 46jr in fifth fastest in time trials.
Finishing third in his heat race, the Sebastopol, CA driver moved into the Sunnyvalley Bacon Dash where his fourth-place finish lined him up in the second row of the 30-lap feature event.
On an overcast night in the North Bay, the track would hold moisture all night long and stay extremely fast and make passing tough.
When the feature came to life, Myers Jr held down the fourth position as he worked around the wicked fast gumbo surface that Petaluma Speedway is known for. Amid a fast paced feature event, a mid-race restart saw Myers Jr get tight and push up the track which led to him losing a couple of positions on the track.
Slipping back to sixth, Myers Jr was unable to race back into the Top-Five as he closed the night out with a sixth-place finish.
“I got tight on a late restart, and it cost us a potential top-five,” Joel Myers Jr said. “Thanks to my guys for the help at the track, as well as at the shop all week. We will keep at it, and hopefully be even a little better this weekend.”
