Joel Myers Jr Secures Top 10 at Johnny Key Classic

PETERSEN MEDIA: Continuing to battle in 360ci competition while the 410ci’s take a break in preparation for the upcoming World of Outlaws swing, Joel Myers Jr had another strong showing as he picked up a sixth-place finish at the Johnny Key Classic at Ocean Speedway.

“We have been really good the last few weeks, and Saturday night was another good run,” Joel Myers Jr said. “Tanner, Cody, Dawson, and my dad did a great job and I’m grateful for their support.”

With 41-cars on hand, Myers Jr got his night off to a great start as he timed the All About Fire Protection/Hi-Plains Building Division/DirtDudes Excavating backed No. 46jr timed in second fastest in his qualifying group.

Running with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour, Myers Jr lined up on the front row of his heat race needing to pick up the win to move into the Dash. Getting the jump, the Sebastopol, CA set sail on the field as he led from start to finish and picked up the win in Tiner Hirst Enterprise Heat Race No. 1.

Moving into the Dash, Jr finished seventh which lined him up in the fourth row of the 35-lap feature event.

When the green lights flashed, Myers slipped back in the early goings of the feature event as he fell back to eighth in the fast-moving race on a very slick racing surface. Battling hard with some of the region’s top drivers, Myers Jr continued to run inside the Top-10 even though he fell back to 10th at the halfway point of the feature.

With a couple of restarts mixed in, Myers Jr came to life as the laps clicked off. Working his way forward, Myers moved into eighth, and then seventh as racing action heated up on the slick surface.

Moving into fifth on the 25th lap, Myers Jr slipped back to sixth as he began tussling with Friday night’s winner, Bud Kaeding.

Continuing to battle with Kaeding, ‘Jr’ settled into sixth as passing got tough in the waning laps.

When the checkered flag was displayed to the field, Myers Jr continued his Top-10 streak as he finished sixth at the ‘Key’.

“We really got rolling in the closing laps,’ Myers Jr said. “Thanks to my guys for their hard work and help all night.”
