Joel Myers Jr Set For Petaluma Speedway Return Saturday Night

PETERSEN MEDIA: While Joel Myers Jr’s first three races in California haven’t gone to plan, the youngster is hoping a homecoming at Petaluma Speedway on Saturday night can get help him get out of his current funk.

“These first couple races have been tough for us,” Joel Myers Jr said. “We had a part failure at Antioch, and then this past weekend in Hanford, CA we just couldn’t get going and struggled both nights. Petaluma Speedway was good to me the last time I ran there, so hopefully we can get going this weekend and build up some momentum.”

Joel Myers Jr and the Joel Myers Racing team travelled to Kings Speedway in Hanford, CA over the weekend to compete with the King of the West/NARC Series for two nights at the 9th Peter Murphy Classic.

Friday night the action came to life with Myers Jr timing the All About Fire Protection/Hi-Plains Building Division/Dirt Dudes Excavating No. 46jr in 11th fastest in time trials amongst the 27 cars checked into the pit area.

Lining up third in his heat race, the Sebastopol, CA driver slipped back to finish fifth, however was still locked into the feature event as he took the green flag from the 14th starting position.

Settling into 14th when the race came to life, Myers ran into issues on the third lap as contact from another car sent him into a spin and he ended up stalled on the track and facing the wrong direction.

Forced to the tail end of the field, Myers did restart and was able to pick up a few positions as he worked his way back into 16th. Once in 16th, Myers Jr went a lap down on the 21st lap, and made the decision to end his night early as he was credited with a 17th place finish.

Back in action on Saturday night for the event’s finale, Myers Jr got the night underway by timing in 17th quickest in the qualifying session. Lining up sixth in his heat race, a fifth place finish put him in the seventh row for the 30-lap feature event.

From the back of the field in the feature, Myers Jr was unable to get going on the slick surface, as passing proved to be tough as the field strung out around the 3/8 mile facility.

When the dust settled on the race, Myers Jr capped his night off with a 17th place finish.

“We have some work to do this week, because we are a little off,” Myers Jr said. “Hoping the rain is finally behind us, and we can get into a groove of racing weekly again. Thank you to everyone who supports us.”
