PETERSEN MEDIA- The results at the Winter Heat Showdown were not glamorous for Joey Saldana and his Roth Motorsports team, but they were a good starting point for the upcoming 2016 season as Saldana closed the week of racing out with finishes of ninth and 11th place and wound up sixth in the overall standings.

“We did not set the world on fire, but we accomplished some things and I think these five races will help us be better off when we unload in Florida,” Joey Saldana said. “We did not have any luck in the draw all week, but we were able to make every feature without going through a B Main, so we showed we can race okay.”

Friday night in Yuma, AZ, Saldana lined the Roth Enterprises/HR Livestock Transportation/3H Cattle No. 83 machine up in the fifth row of his heat race. On a track that stayed relatively narrow early on in the night, Saldana was able to gain some valuable points as he finished sixth.

Lining up on the front row of his qualifier, ‘The Brownsburg Bullet’ took advantage of his prime starting position and got the jump over Bill Balog. Stretching his lead out lap by lap, Saldana would grab the win and secure a spot in the 30-lap feature event.

The start to the feature event on Friday night would prove very vital as not a ton of passing would be had on this night. Settling into the Top-10 as the race came to life, Saldana spent much of the 30-laps battling for position with fellow World of Outlaw stars Paul McMahan and Darryn Pittman.

After briefly falling outside of the Top-10, Saldana would pick up a couple of positions late as be brought the Roth Motorsports entry home with a ninth place finish.

One final night of action at the 2nd Annual Winter Heat Showdown saw the 3H Cattle/FK Rod Ends/KPC No. 83 grid the field from the third row for the final heat race of the week.

Finishing in the fifth spot, Saldana would win his qualifier from the pole and successfully reach his fifth feature event of the week based on points all five nights.

Gridding the field from the seventh row, Saldana was able to get his machine moving in the right direction. Searching around the 3/8 mile Cocopah Speedway, Saldana would work his way into the 11th spot as he chased after Domini Scelzi who ran ahead of him in 10th.

With the Checkered flag in the air, Saldana would close his week out with an 11th place finish and he would end up sixth in the overall standings.

“I have to thank Dennis and Teresa Roth for giving us this opportunity to get an early start to the season,” Saldana added. “We would have liked to contend for a couple of wins, but hopefully this leads to a fast start to the season when we pick back up in February.”

The Roth Motorsports team would like to thank Roth Enterprises, HR Livestock Transportation, 3H Cattle,  Mobil1, FK Rod Ends, Weld Wheels, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Kent Performance, Kaeding Performance, and Astro Titanium for their support in 2016.

ON TAP: Joey and the Roth Motorsports team will resume racing in February when they take party in the DIRTcar Nationals at the Volusia Speedway Park kicking off on Feb. 10th.
