PETERSEN MEDIA- Traveling to the southern part of California with the King of the West Series, Jonathan Allard put together two strong nights of racing as he recorded a sixth place finish at the Santa Maria Speedway on Friday night before scoring a fourth place finish at the Ventura Raceway on Saturday night.
“We would have loved to have been a couple of spots better, but we are happy with a couple of nice finishes,” Allard said.
The Santa Maria Speedway was the scene on Friday night, and Allard kicked his night off by timing the Tri-C Manufacturing/K&N/ButlerBuilt No. 3c machine in sixth fastest.
Finishing third in his heat race, the Chico, CA pilot would line up for the 30-lap feature event in the ninth spot, on what was a heavy and rough racing surface.
With cars bicycling, and riding wheelie’s all night long, Allard bounced around the speedway himself, but was able to keep his machine moving forward.
Battling with Sean Becker and Shane Golobic late in the race, the 2014 Gold Cup Champion took the checkered flag in the sixth position.
Heading farther south, Allard and his team followed the series to their first ever appearance at the Ventura Raceway in Ventura, CA.
With 19 cars making the tow, Allard timed his Platinum Power Coating/King Racing Products/BR Motorsports backed No. 3c machine in fourth fastest, putting himself in the second row of the first heat race.
Finishing fourth on the Ventura Raceway bullring, Allard would slip back to the third spot from his front row starting spot in the night’s dash, putting him in the second row for the 30-lap feature event.
Jumping into the second spot during the early laps of the feature event, Allard put pressure on the race leader, Kyle Hirst. Continuing to stalk Hirst, Allard soon felt pressure from third running Bud Kaeding.
Following a red flag on lap 16, close racing on the bullring saw a little contact get Allard into the wall, and he lost a few positions.
Gathering his machine back up, Allard would rebound to finish his weekend off with a fourth place showing.
“We had a really fast car at Ventura, but things get tough on a small bullring, and we had some contact hamper us a bit,” he added. “Overall a great weekend for us. We look forward to getting ready for some of the bigger races we have coming up.”
Allard would like to thank Tri-C Manufacturing, K&N, ButlerBuilt, Platinum Powder Coating, King Racing Products, BR Motorsports, Red Line Oil, KSE Racing Products, Weld Wheels, NGK Spark Plugs, FK Rod Ends, Hunt Magnetos, Longacre Products, Ti64, A.R.T. Speed Equipment and Hoosier Tire for their support.
2014 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-55, Wins-10, Top 5’s-26, Top 10’s-37.
