PETERSEN MEDIA- Checking in at Placerville Speedway on Saturday night and taking part in the lucrative Mark Forni-CJ Humphreys Classic, Justin Sanders and Dale Miller Motorsports continued to run extremely well on the hill as Sanders tallied a fourth place finish after taking the green flag from the eighth starting spot.
“We had another good car, but the way the track was and the way our draw went it kind of hurt us,” Justin Sanders said. “We had a couple of really long green flag runs to get going, but it was tricky to make up ground and we just kind of took what we could, and I made a couple of mistakes pushing it. ”
35 cars packed into the pit area at Placerville Speedway, and Sanders got the night underway by timing the Anrak/Thompson’s Family of Dealerships/North County Plastering backed No. 4SA in 4th fastest after going out very late in the qualifying session.
Lining up on the front row of his heat race, Sanders flexed his muscle early as he mashed the throttle and left the field behind. Surging to the win, Sanders punched his ticket into the 30-lap feature event and also earned a spot in the redraw where the eighth placed him in the fourth row of the main.
Following a track prep session prior to pushing out for the ‘A’, Sanders was set for action as he took his spot in the fourth row. When the race came to life, the Aromas, CA pilot quickly moved into sixth as over half of the race clicked by before a stoppage was needed.
During the extended green flag run Sanders continued to search around the extremely slick surface as moved into 5th on the 10th lap before taking the fourth spot as the red flag was needed on the 18th lap.
Making an uncharacteristic mistake when the action resumed, Sanders slipped back to eighth as he slipped over the edge of the rack but wasted no time making up for lost time.
As the laps clicked off Sanders was back into fifth on the 25th lap, and then raced into fourth with just three laps left in the race.
When the 30-lapper came to a close, Sanders capped the night off with a fourth place finish.
“I was trying to use that restart to make some momentum and get some driver forward, I just misjudged a little,” he said. “Thankful to have a fast car to drive, and looking forward to trying again at Chico, CA in a few weeks.”
The Dale Miller Motorsports team would like to thank Anrak, Thompson’s Family of Dealerships, North County Plastering, Triple X Race Co., Dale Miller Septic Inc., Smith Titanium, Frank’s Body Shop, Fisher Racing Engines, Walker Performance Filtration, ADCO Custom Driveline and Exhaust, Hair by Lovleen, Factory Kahne Shocks, Vortex Wings, TJ Forged Wheels, FK Rod Ends, King Racing Products, and A.R.T.
