Justin Sanders 7th at Tom Tarlton Classic

PETERSEN MEDIA: Traveling to Hanford, CA on Saturday night to take part in the Tom Tarlton Classic, Justin Sanders and the Antaya Motorsports team picked up a seventh-place finish despite enduring a power steering issue late in the race.

“It was a pretty good night for us,” Justin Sanders said. “We actually got up to fourth at one point in the feature, but we had a power steering issue develop and I had to hang on and we ended up seventh.”

With 30 cars checked for the inaugural running of the event, Sanders timed the Fire Protection Management/Alkaline 88/North County Plastering backed No. 16a machine in fourth fastest in time trials.

Lining up on the pole of the first heat, the bottom was not the place anyone wanted to be as it was still pretty greasy up against the infield berm. Unable to get the jump, Sanders would fall in line in second, where he would go on to finish.

Missing out on the Dash, Sanders still had a prime starting spot for the feature event as he would take the green flag from the seventh starting position. With the track still pretty fast in the early goings of the race, the Aromas, CA driver was methodical as he slowly worked his way towards the Top-Five.

Cracking the Top-Five, and actually getting into the fourth position, Sanders would stalk Brad Sweet who ran just ahead of him in third as he also battled with Dominic Scelzi. As the race scooted along, Sanders would develop a power steering entry aboard his machine which made the last few laps difficult from the the cockpit.

Losing a few positions as he wrestled the Antaya Motorsports entry around the 3/8 mile facility, Sanders will capped his night off with a seventh place finish.

“We had a great car in the feature event, we just had some bad luck that cost us a Top-Five, at least,” Sanders said. “We will try again this weekend in Stockton, CA.”

Justin and Larry Antaya Motorsports would like to thank Fire Protection Management, Alkaline 88, North County Plastering, Roadside 24 Hour Service, Wicked Cushion, FK Rod Ends, DMI, Triple X Race Co., Walker Filtration, FK Shocks, and Wings Unlimited for their support in 2020.

ON TAP: Justin Sanders and Antaya Motorsports will be back in action on Saturday night in Stockton, CA.
