Justin Sanders Back in Victory Lane at Ocean Speedway

PETERSEN MEDIA: Picking up his first win of the season at Ocean Speedway just one week ago, Justin Sanders wasted no time becoming the tracks’ first repeat winner of the season as he grabbed the lead early on Friday night and picked up his second win in as many weeks at the Santa Cruz Count Fairground facility.

“Two in a row is pretty good,” Justin Sanders said. “It has been great having Tim Green back in the pits with us giving us some pointers, he is a huge help and it’s great to have someone to bounce ideas off of.”

Sanders kicked his Friday night off by timing the North County Plastering/Alkaline88/Andy’s Construction backed No. 17 machine in 11th fastest in qualifying time trials.

Lining up on the front row of his heat race, the Aromas, CA pilot would pick up the win and make his way into the nightly dash. Finishing fifth in the Dash, Sanders would roll of the starting grid from the inside of the third row for the 30-lap feature event.

A slow start to the feature saw Sanders use an early restart to make his way into the third position where he would run until the caution again flew on the eighth lap.

The ensuring restart would be just what Sanders needed as he was able to get into second as the field raced down the back stretch, and then was able to get under Tanner Carrick in turns three and four to take over the lead as the field completed the ninth lap.

Out front, Sanders would be tough to track down. Approaching traffic at the race’s halfway point and again with just eight to go, yellow flags would fly, and Sanders would find himself in clean air.

Doing a great job out front, Sanders would race his third win overall in 2020, and his second at Ocean Speedway as he now looks forward to this weekend’s Johnny Key Classic.

“Friday night the track was really dominant on the bottom, and I was able to get my left front up on the inside berm and really get our car rotated,” Sanders added. “It would be huge to win the 60th Johnny Key Classic this weekend, and I think if I can time in a little better it will make our lives a little easier.”

Justin and his team would like to thank North County Plastering, Alkaline88, Andy’s Construction, Yuba Sutter Aviation, Roadside 24hr Service, Wicked Cushion, Roger’s Diner, Factory Kahne, BG Labels and Tee’s, Walker Performance Filtration, Dixon and Son Tires, Ernie’s Service Center, East Lake Village, FK Rod Ends, Triple X Race Co., DMI, Keizer Wheels, Wings Unlimited, Ti64 Titanium, AIS Heating and Sheet Metal, Fred Lint and Family, JonSan Racing, Sandblast Service, G&N Construction, Steitz Towing, Durden Construction, Ernie’s Service Center, and Steve Duppman Racing for their continued support in 2020.

ON TAP: Sanders will be right back in action on Saturday night at Ocean Speedway for the 60th Johnny Key Classic.
