Justin Sanders Picks Up First Win of 2022

PETERSEN MEDIA: A memorable 2021 season started off by Justin Sanders sweeping the Silver Cup in Chico, CA en-route to winning 21 feature events. Fast forward to 2022, and Sanders nearly pulled off the same feat as he won Friday’s Silver Cup opener before running second in Saturday’s finale.
“It has been a really fun start to the 2022 season with Mittry Motorsports,” Justin Sanders said. “To get our first win of the season already and be in the hunt for a weekend sweep is pretty cool and I am excited for what this season has in store for us.”
Friday night in Chico, CA, Sanders came our firing on all cylinders as he earned fast time honors in his qualifying group aboard the Farmers Brewing/Mittry Construction/North County Plastering backed No. 2x machine.
Lining up on the pole of his heat race, the inside lane would not be the place to start any of the four heat races, and Sanders would finish in the second spot which was good enough to lock him into the redraw.
Pulling the three pill, Sanders would again find himself on the bottom for the start of the feature event and just as it was in heat race action, it was still greasy and not the optimal place to be.
Slipping back to seventh in the race’s early goings, Sanders would do what he has done so many times over the course of his career and that would be coming on strong in the later stages of the race.
With the leaders getting into traffic on the hooked-up surface, Sanders would start to pick off the likes of Willie Croft, Tyler Thompson, and Andy Forsberg.
Getting into second, Sanders had a near miss in traffic as John Clark would lose power in front of him and Sanders would be stuck on his back bumper. Unsure if Clark would pull off or stop, Sanders would lose a few positions but as Clark drew the caution, Sanders would get his spot back.
Lining up alongside Kaleb Montgomery for the ensuing restart, Sanders would then get the jump and never look back. Out in front, the Aromas, CA driver would race his way to his first win of the season.
Back in action on Saturday night, looking for another Silver Cup sweet, Sanders would again get off to a quick start as he timed the Mittry Motorsports car in fastest in his time trial group for the second night in a row.
Picking up a heat race win, Sanders would make his way into the 10-car Dash where his third-place finish put him in the second row of the 35-lap $5700-to-win John Padjen Classic Silver Cup feature event.
Settling into third as the race came to life, Sanders would set his sights on Chase Majdic who ran in second just ahead of him.
Working on Majdic for numerous laps on the technical Silver Dollar Speedway surface, Sanders would finally get into second just past the race’s halfway point as he took over on lap 21.
Now chasing after Mitchell Faccinto, Sanders would start to cut into his lead until the caution was needed on the 24th lap. The next restart saw Faccinto execute it perfectly as drove away as Sanders fell back to fourth.
Getting back into third with just five-laps left in the race, Sanders would get back by Majdic on the race’s final lap to secure a second-place finish to close out his weekend.
“Thanks to everyone who is a part of this team,” Sanders said. “It was a fun weekend, and like I said, I am really glad to get a win for this team so quickly.”
Justin and his team would like to thank Farmers Brewing, Mittry Construction, North County Plastering, Alkaline88, Andy’s Construction, Roadside 24hr Service, Wicked Cushion, Roger’s Diner, Factory Kahne, BG Labels and Tee’s, Walker Performance Filtration, Dixon and Son Tires, Ernie’s Service Center, East Lake Village, FK Rod Ends, Triple X Race Co., DMI, Keizer Wheels, Wings Unlimited, Ti64 Titanium, AIS Heating and Sheet Metal, Fred Lint and Family, JonSan Racing, Sandblast Service, G&N Construction, Steitz Towing, Durden Construction, Ernie’s Service Center, and Steve Duppman Racing for their continued support in 2021.
