PETERSEN MEDIA: In racing they say it’s better to be lucky than good on any given night. Friday night, Justin Sanders will be the first to tell you that he was far more lucky than he was good, and it helped him grab another win at Ocean Speedway to stay unbeaten at his home track thus far in 2021.
“We honestly were not very good on Friday night,” Justin Sanders said. “I got lucky when Chase Madjic had trouble in traffic, and when Bud Kaeding got out of the rubber trying to pass a lapped car. It is definitely good to get another win, and hopefully we can keep this rolling.”
Timing 13th fastest in qualifying time trials on a very slick racing surface, the Aromas, CA driver would pick up the heat race win aboard the North County Plastering/Alkaline88/Andy’s Construction backed No. 17 machine.
Moving into the Dash, Sanders’ fifth place finish would place him in the third row of the 30-lap finale.
Any early restart saw Sanders move into the third position and he was then able to move into third before the leaders found the back of the field. Getting into heavy traffic on the 12th lap, Sanders would slip back to third before taking advantage of a Bud Kaeding miscue to reclaim the second position.
On the 17th lap, Madjic would have his trouble in traffic and it would allow Sanders to take the lead just before a caution flew and bunched the field back up.
With rubber down on the speedway, Sanders would toe the line for the last 13-laps of the race as he was able to fend of Bud Kaeding and pick up his second consecutive win at the speedway.
“We definitely have some things to work on when it gets that slick, but I am happy to get the win,” Sanders added.
Justin and his team would like to thank North County Plastering, Alkaline88, Andy’s Construction, Roadside 24hr Service, Wicked Cushion, Roger’s Diner, Factory Kahne, BG Labels and Tee’s, Walker Performance Filtration, Dixon and Son Tires, Ernie’s Service Center, East Lake Village, FK Rod Ends, Triple X Race Co., DMI, Keizer Wheels, Wings Unlimited, Ti64 Titanium, AIS Heating and Sheet Metal, Fred Lint and Family, JonSan Racing, Sandblast Service, G&N Construction, Steitz Towing, Durden Construction, Ernie’s Service Center, and Steve Duppman Racing for their continued support in 2021.
