PETERSEN MEDIA: Though having a love-hate relationship with the Petaluma Speedway, Justin Sanders picked up his third podium finish of the year at the track on Saturday night, as he closed in on Civil War Series point leader, Andy Forsberg, with just one race remaining.

“It was the first time I have ever been in my personal car at Petaluma, and I was very pleased with how everything went,” Sanders said. “We had a great car, and closed in on Shane Golobic at the end, but he was pretty good on Saturday night.”

Timing his JSR No. 17 machine in 12th fastest, Sanders would go on to win his heat race in convincing fashion, and earn a spot in the all-important Dash.

Picking up a fourth place finish in the Dash, Sanders would line up for the 30-lap A Main event in the second row, on what was a hooked up and tricky Petaluma Speedway surface.

Running in the fourth spot in the early stages of the race, Sanders would find himself in pursuit of Shane Golobic and Justyn Cox who raced in front of him.

Following a lap-10 restart, Sanders would get by Colby Copeland and Cox to jump into the second spot, as he began chasing after the race leader, Shane Golobic.

With Golobic having a sizeable lead, Sanders would make up serious ground in the closing laps, as he was able to close in on Golobic as they raced in traffic.

Getting to Golobic’s rear bumper on the white flag lap, Sanders would try to make a move, but would come up short as he finished second, and closed in on the Civil War Series point lead with just one race to go.

“This point battle is coming down to the wire, and this was a great night for us,” Sanders added. “Stockton should be a great night between myself, Shane Golobic, and Andy Forsberg, and I am hoping we can come out on top.”

ON TAP: Sanders will head to the Silver Dollar Speedway this Friday and Saturday night to compete in the annual Fall Nationals.

2015 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-48, Wins-19, Top-5’s-34, Top-10’s-42
