Justin Sanders Scores Fourth Placerville Win of Season; 3rd at Ocean Speedway

PETERSEN MEDIA: Justin Sanders put together a masterful weekend that saw him pick up his fourth win of the 2014 season at the Placerville Speedway aboard the Rudy Warrington No. 18 machine, on the heels of a third place fun on Friday night a the Ocean Speedway aboard his JSR No. 17 machine.
“Overall it was an awesome weekend,” Sanders said. “To pass Andy Forsberg and Greg DeCaires at Placerville to win, and race with DJ Netto and Shane Golobic at Ocean on Friday to get third is pretty cool.”
With 23 cars checked into the Placerville Speedway, Sanders went out very late in time trials, and found some speed as he timed the Rudy Warrington No. 18 machine in second fastest.
Finishing third in his heat, Sanders pulled for four-pill in the redraw, and when the green dropped on the feature, he moved into the third spot, as he chased after Andy Forsberg and Greg DeCaires.
As the lead duo worked the bottom of the speedway on the extremely slick surface, Sanders sat in the catbird seat as he shadowed the lead duos every move for the opening half of the race.
On the 15th lap, Sanders used the high side to his advantage, as he rode the rim to the top spot as he took over command of the race.
Though Forsberg didn’t go away quietly, Sanders was able to fend off the many time track champion, as he picked up his fourth win of the season at the speedway.
“The way the track was, you had to try something, and I went for it, and it worked out,” he said. “I can’t thank everyone on this 18 team enough for all of their hard work.”
Friday night, Sanders was in action at the Ocean Speedway aboard the JSR No. 17 machine.
A 29 car field assembled for what was the final Johnny Key Classic Qualifying event, and Sanders kicked his night off in a quick way, as he timed in third fastest in qualifying time trials.
Charging to a heat race win, Sanders would pull the seven pill in the Top-Eight redraw, and from that position he would slowly work his way up through the field during the 30-lap main event.
Taking advantage of some late double-file restarts, Sanders was able to get into the third spot, as he began tracking down second place running DJ Netto.
In the closing laps, Sanders took a couple shots at Netto for the second position, but was unable to make a pass stick, and crossed he stripe in the third spot.
“It hasn’t been the year we were hoping for at the Ocean Speedway, but it was a good tune up for the Johnny Key Classic that is coming up this Saturday night. I have to thank all of the great people that support my racing efforts.”
Justin Sanders would like to thank North County Plastering, G&N Construction, STS Trucking, Lancaster Locksmith, Village Glass. Lufos Kustom Designs, Taco Bravo, LRB Race Products, Petersen Media, Fire Protection Management, Dirt Solution, Bob Tweedy, Ron Gravelle.
