Justin Sanders Scores Pair of Top 5’s at Gold Cup with Dale Miller Motorsports

PETERSEN MEDIA- Taking their show on the road last week, Justin Sanders and Dale Miller Motorsports tested themselves against some of the regions top teams during the first two nights of the Gold Cup Race of Champions, and to no surprise they were in the mix both nights as Sanders scored fourth and fifth place finishes.
“It was a tale of two different surfaces on Wednesday and Thursday night, but we had good speed both nights and had a really good showing,” Justin Sanders said.
Wednesday night the curtain went up on the 65th Annual Gold Cup Race of Champions as Sanders and team took on the Civil War Series pres. by Flowmaster. A total of 46 cars checked into the event and Sanders kicked his night off by timing the Thompson’s Auto/RedHawk Casino/Dale Miller Septic, Inc. entry in third fastest and set himself up for the rest of the night.
On the slick surface, heat races proved to be entertaining and Sanders battle up front as a third place finish locked him into the Dash where his fifth place finish put him in the third row to start the 30-lap feature event.
When the feature event rolled around rubber was already down on the speedway, and things did not look good for passing on this night. Sanders would run in fourth for much of the race before a restart saw Sean Becker drop him back to fifth. Continuing to keep his machine in the rubber, the Watsonville, CA driver used a late restart to retake the fourth position where he would close out his night.
Back in action on Thursday to try his hand at a format just unveiled a couple of weeks before the Gold Cup, Sanders would time the Dale Miller prepared entry in 22nd quickest, and with way the format was he would find himself in the second row of his heat.
Making some big moves in heat racing action, Sanders would pick up the win which would be important on this night as he would then line up fourth in the feature event and in prime position for another top finish.
With the surface a little more racy on this night, Sanders and company anticipated the surface slicking off and tightened their machine up prior to the feature. With the track staying really good all night long, Sanders’ would be a little on the tight side and his machine would not be as maneuverable as he had hoped.
Still, getting his elbows up, Sanders would battle with the likes of Tim Kaeding, Kyle Larson, Tony Gualda, and Jace Vander Weerd as he capped the 360ci portion of Gold Cup off with a fifth place finish.
“I think it was great that we ran well on both kinds of surfaces,” Sanders said. “Dale Miller does a great job with his team, and it is a pleasure to race with him when I am able to.”
The Dale Miller Motorsports team would like to thank Thompson’s Auto, RedHawk Casino, Dale Miller Septic, Inc, El Dorado Hills Landscaping, Anrak Corporation, Frank’s Body Shop, Wion’s Powder Coating, Walker Performance Filtration, Factory Kahne Shocks, Smith Titanium, King Racing Products, A.R.T.
