PETERSEN MEDIA: Justin Sanders had a busy week. Running second with Mittry Motorsports on Saturday night at the King of the West/NARC season opener, Sanders reunited with Swindell Speedlab in Kansas and ran 17th during the High Limit Racing season opening event and has four more races on tap this weekend.

“It is great to get back to racing, and I’m happy and thankful to be as busy as I am right now,” Justin Sanders said. “Saturday night we were really good and had another really good battle with Corey Day just as we had a couple of weeks back at Placerville Speedway. Tuesday night in Kansas, we had good speed early in the night and it set us up. I made a couple of mistakes in our heat, but we transferred and made the feature.”

Saturday night in Hanford, CA, Sanders got off to a quick start as he used his late draw for time trials to his advantage and timed the Mittry Construction/North County Plastering entry in second fastest.

Lining up on the pole of his heat race, the Aromas, CA pilot took full advantage of the starting position as he got the jump and left the field in his wake. Picking up the win Sanders moved into the Dash where his win there put him on the pole of the $10,000-to-win Anthony Simone Classic feature event.

When the race went green, Sanders jumped out to the early lead as he set a strong pace over the field as they worked around the Central CA speed plant. An early restart set up a very entertaining battle between Sanders and second running, Corey Day.

Just as the duo did at Placerville Speedway during the Sprint Car Challenge Tour opener, they hooked up in a knockout, drag out battle for the race lead. As the duo battled hard, another early stoppage paused the action and set up another restart.

When the action resumed, Sanders continued to lead the way but simply could not shake Day as they entered lapped traffic. Making some moves to keep the youngster at bay, Sanders finally gave up the top spot with seven to go as Day was able to sneak by him in turns three and four.

Unable to race his way back into the top spot. Sanders capped his night off with a second-place finish, and quickly turned his attention to Tuesday night’s High Limit Racing opener in Kansas.

Making the flight to Kansas on Monday, Sanders reunited with the Swindell Speedlab team that he qualified for last August’s Knoxville Nationals with.

Getting off to a really strong start in time trials, Sanders timed the Victory Fuel backed No. 39 entry in third fastest in his qualifying flight.

Lining up on the front row of his heat race, Sanders would race hard with the likes of Brad Sweet and Gio Scelzi before settling for a fourth-place finish.

By way of his finish, Sanders was locked into the $50,000-to-win feature event and rolled off the starting grid from the 13th starting position.

On a racy surface, Sanders would race hard with some of the country’s best drivers but was unable to make a run through the field. Falling back as far as 20th at times, Sanders would use a couple of late restarts with the Choose Cone to his advantage as he rallied to finish the night out with a 17th place finish.

“Racing this month will definitely help keep me sharp, and keep me running well,” Sanders said. “I was a little bummed with how our feature went on Tuesday at Lakeside, but I’m confident we will get the Victory Fuel car back up front our next time out.”

Justin and his team would like to thank Farmers Brewing, Mittry Construction, North County Plastering, Alkaline88, Andy’s Construction, Roadside 24hr Service, Wicked Cushion, Roger’s Diner, Factory Kahne, BG Labels and Tee’s, Walker Performance Filtration, Dixon and Son Tires, Ernie’s Service Center, East Lake Village, FK Rod Ends, Triple X Race Co., DMI, Keizer Wheels, Wings Unlimited, Ti64 Titanium, AIS Heating and Sheet Metal, Fred Lint and Family, JonSan Racing, Sandblast Service, G&N Construction, Steitz Towing, Durden Construction, Ernie’s Service Center, and Steve Duppman Racing for their continued support in 2022.

ON TAP: Sanders is set for a big weekend in Tulare, CA as will do Double Duty during both nights of the Dennis Roth Classic.

BY THE NUMBERS: Races-4, Wins-2, Top 5’s-3, Top-10’s-3
