PETERSEN MEDIA: Taking the reigns to the Doug Rutz No. 8r over the weekend with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour, Justyn Cox would put a tough Friday night behind him as he picked up a 10th place finish during Saturday’s finale.
“First and foremost I want to thank the Rutz family for the opportunity to race, and for our first outing together, I would say it went pretty well,” Justyn Cox said.
Having a couple mishaps during Friday’s program Cox would find himself battling inside the Top-10 in the feature event only to see early contact end his night prematurely.
Having a good field in his first night working with Rutz, Cox entered Saturday night feeling confident.
Timing in sixth fastest in his qualifying group, Cox and company would make some adjustments prior to heat race action and they would prove to be the right direction as the Clarksburg, CA driver would advance from sixth to finish second.
By way of his heat race finish, Cox would take the green flag from the 10th starting position in the 30-lap feature event, and would find himself working the high groove like much of the field was on this night.
Battling hard with Rico Abreu, the duo would fight tooth and nail for position. Unable to really shake himself of Abreu, Cox would hang on to cap his weekend with a 10th place finish.
“We had good speed Saturday night, and we were able to pass cars but they were able to get back by as the track really got moving around the top,” Cox said. “It was a good first weekend together and I can’t thank Doug and Jim enough for their hard work.”
The Cox Racing team would like to thank Michael David Winery, Five Window Beer Company, MDW Sports, Cranked Naturals, PM Truck Repair, Justice Brothers, K&N, LRB, Konnected, A.R.T., Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, College Cyclery, Arai, Racing Optics, All American Powder Coating, Coos Bay Speedway, Swimming Pool Perfections, Tim’s Hot Rod Shop, Shell Shock, Moyle Race Engines, and Manzer Motorsports for their support in 2019!
2019 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-8, Wins-1, Top 5’s-2, Top 10’s-4
