PETERSEN MEDIA: Justyn Cox put together a very solid weekend at the 21st Annual Trophy Cup in Tulare, CA as he used a Friday night 10th place finish and an 11th place effort on Saturday night to finish 11th overall in Trophy Cup Standings.

“It was pretty cool to go quick time on Friday night, and score a Top-10 even though we started on the front row,” Cox explained. “We were way off on our set up, so a 10th was decent, and then we were able to make the show on Saturday.”

Using Friday night’s quick time, and 10th place effort, Cox sat 15th overall in Trophy Cup points heading into Saturday’s heat races. Advancing his Capitol Casino/Jimmy Vasser Chevrolet/JRI Shocks backed No. 31c entry from sixth to fourth in his heat, the Clarksburg, CA pilot remained 15th in points, and locked into the night’s 50-lap feature event.

With the Top-20 in points inverted for the feature, Cox rolled off in the fifth row, and instantly jumped into the eighth spot, as the field jockeyed around for position.  Under caution, Cox noticed he was having brake issues, but still stayed on the speedway, and the slick conditions made things tough on him as he slid back to the 12th spot as he fought to keep inside the Top-10.

Still fighting his brake issue, Cox sat in the 15th spot on the 34th lap when the caution waived and ultiamtley changed to red, allowing teams to add fuel to their machines for the final 16 markers.

When the race went back to green, the rubber had been laid down on the speedway, and Cox was able to find it, and pick up a few positions as he worked his way back up to the 11th spot in the closing laps.

Taking the checkered flag in the 11th spot, Cox also had climbed to 11th in the overall Trophy Cup standings.

“I can’t thank my guys enough for all of their hard work,” Cox said. “We struggled a bunch during the year, and it was nice to put together some strong runs during the biggest race of the year. Rod Tiner, Jr, dan, Tommy, Fez, and Jason worked their butts off, and I thank them for their hard work.”

The Cox Racing team would like to thank Capitol Casino, Jimmy Vasser Chevrolet, JRI Shocks, JRD Endeavors, NAAKE, LRB, Tim’s Hot Rods, Justice Brothers, Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, Worton Designs, Manzer Motorsports, MTFX Graphics, Konnected,  and College Cyclery for their support during the 2014 season.

2014 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-25, Wins-0, Top 5’s-4, Top 10’s-10

ON TAP: Cox will be back in action on November 1st at the Stockton Dirt Track with the Civil War Series Presented By Flowmaster!
