PETERSEN MEDIA: Getting back to work with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour on Saturday night in Stockton, CA for the Jimmy Sills Classic, Justyn Cox would admittedly have a so-so night that culminated with a 12th place finish in the feature event.

“We were fast, but we just couldn’t seem to get going with the stoppages during the ‘A’,” Cox said. “I think I could have been a little more aggressive on restarts looking back at the night, but we will take our 12th place finish and move on after getting through a night with no issues.”

A total of 53 cars packed the pit area in Stockton, CA for the second round of SCCT action, and Cox would get off to a great start as he timed the Berco Redwood/Berry Lumber/Trex backed No. 31C in second quickest in his qualifying group.

Lining up third in his heat race, the bottom would not be the ideal place to be on the start and Cox would slip back to fourth. Getting in line and going, Cox’s fourth place finish would move him into the 30-lap feature event where he would take the green flag from the 19th starting position.

On a tricky surface, Cox would hang in the back of the pack for the first handful of laps as he would then jump up into the 16th spot on the race’s fifth lap.

With stoppages hampering the race’s flow, Cox would continue to run in the Top-15 as he jumped into the 13th position on the race’s 11th lap. Bouncing back and forth between 13th and 14th, Cox would use a lap 18 restart to overtake 13th before taking over 12th a lap later.

As the race moved along, Cox would continue to hold down the 12th position as he laid down some quick laps. Turning his fastest lap of the race on the 27th lap, Cox would close in on Justin Sanders for 11th but on this night he would take the checkered in 12th.

“It was just hard to get in rhythm,” Cox added. “It was great to get in the show and be able to gauge ourselves against some really tough cars, and now we can continue to work and get our car better for this weekend.”

The Cox Racing team would like to thank Berco Redwood, Berry Lumber, Trex, PM Truck Repair, Justice Brothers, K&N, LRB, Konnected, A.R.T., Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, College Cyclery, Arai, Racing Optics, All American Powder Coating, Coos Bay Speedway, Swimming Pool Perfections, Tim’s Hot Rod Shop, Shell Shock, Moyle Race Engines, and Manzer Motorsports for their support in 2018!

2018 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-5, Wins-0, Top 5’s-0, Top 0’s-0

ON TAP: Cox returns to action on Saturday night at Placerville Speedway.
