PETERSEN MEDIA: After having some bad luck during the feature on Friday night, Justyn Cox would race hard through his heat race to transfer to the feature event where he would come away with a 15th place finish.

“It was a tough weekend overall,” Justyn Cox said. “We missed the heat race inversion by a fraction of a second on Friday, and ended up breaking in the feature. Saturday night we didn’t get a good lap in, and raced in to the show after starting pretty far back in our heat and ended up finishing 15th.”

With 57 cars checked into the Fall Nationals on Friday night, Cox would time in ninth quickest in his qualifying flight, missing the inversion by just .001 seconds.

Lining up fifth in his heat race, Cox would finish aboard the Berco Redwood/Berry Lumber/Trex backed entry which was good enough to lock into the 30-lap feature event.

Gridding the field from the 18th starting position, Cox would take to the tricky surface as he was able to work into 13th by the fifth lap. With his car getting tough to steer, Cox would see a part failure end his night on the 11th lap.

Back in action Saturday night, Cox would have mechanical issues in hot laps, and it would lead to him timing in 18th quickest in his qualifying flight. Lining up in the fifth row of his heat race, Cox had his elbows up as he flexed his muscle in the heat. Picking up a lot of track position, Cox would finish fifth and safely advance into the 40-lap feature event.

Lining up 17th on the starting grid for the 40-lap affair, Cox admittedly couldn’t get going in the early stages as his machine was a tick on the tight side. As he tried to pick up position before the rubber came, Cox would find himself in the 15th spot. As the rubber continued to go down as the laps clicked off, Cox would hang on to the 15th position when the checkered flag was displayed to the field.

“We missed it in time trials, but we raced really well in the heat,” Cox added. “The feature we couldn’t do much before the rubber came in, and once that happened we just got in line and maintained.”

The Cox Racing team would like to thank Berco Redwood, Berry Lumber, Trex, PM Truck Repair, Justice Brothers, K&N, LRB, Konnected, A.R.T., Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, EyeLusions, All American Powder Coating, Coos Bay Speedway, Swimming Pool Perfections, Tim’s Hot Rod Shop, Shell Shock, Moyle Race Engines, and Manzer Motorsports for their support in 2017!
