Justyn Cox and C&M Motorsports Tally Two Top-10’s During Grueling Two-Night Stretch

Updated: May 17, 2021

PETERSEN MEDIA- Taking part in a Sprint Car Challenge Tour event in Hanford, CA on Friday night before returning to weekly action at Placerville Speedway on Saturday night, Justyn Cox and C&M Motorsports appeared to be up to the test as they finished eighth on Friday night before a sixth-place finish on Saturday night.

“It was a really grueling weekend stemming from the late night and long driver Friday to turning around on running on Saturday night, but Cody and a host of others made it happen, and it was a pretty good weekend overall with no issues,” Justyn Cox said.

Getting off to a bit of a rocky start during time trials on Friday night at Keller Auto Speedway, Cox would rebound nicely in his heat race as he charged from his eighth place starting position to tally a fourth-place finish aboard the Berco Redwood/Berry Lumber/Lund Construction backed entry.

Able to transfer directly into the 30-lap feature event, Cox would find himself in the eighth row on a very slick and abrasive surface that had been reworked after the 410ci feature took rubber.

Unsure on how long the surface would hold until rubber started going back down on the speedway, Cox was able to make up some ground in the early laps despite the race being slowed by stoppages.

Racing his way into the Top-10, Cox would get up to eighth as passing would start to slow down as the track would start to become a bit one dimensional. When the checkered flew, Cox closed his night out with an eighth-place finish.

Making the long trip back to Placerville Speedway on Saturday night, overcast conditions would make for a lightning-fast surface early in the night as Cox was able to time in third fastest in time trials.

Running third in his heat race, Cox would earn a spot in the redraw, though the seven pill would put him in the fourth row of the 25-lap feature event.

While the track appeared to still be heavy as cars rolled out for the feature event, it proved to be a bit deceiving as the surface would turn slick and create some great racing.

Planning for more of a hooked-up surface, Cox would hold his own in the top five for much of the race, but as his car would get a little more loose in the closing stages of the race, he would actually fall back to sixth when the race came to an end.

“We had a pretty good night going on Saturday night, but the track really threw us off,” Cox said. “We all thought it was still pretty heavy and fast, but it actually got slick and built up a pretty nice cushion. We weren’t exactly set up for it to do that, so I did what I could to maintain, and we ended up sixth. It was a super long weekend, I had a blast racing with these guys, and really have to thank Cody and Mandi for making it happen.”

The C&M Motorsports team would like to thank Berco Redwood, Barry Lumber, Inc., Lund Construction, Anrak, Legacy Specialties, Inc. PT Shocks, Swartz Diesel, Alturas Tires, and all of their product sponsors for their continued support.

ON TAP: Cox and C&M Motorsports will be in action on Saturday night in Stockton, CA and on Sunday in Placerville, CA.
